WEST Coast has re-signed veterans Mark LeCras and Eric Mackenzie on one-year deals to help guide the club through a bold list transition.

The Eagles have already shed more than 1000 games' experience, with long-time servants Matt Priddis and Sam Butler hanging up the boots alongside retired recruits Sam Mitchell and Drew Petrie.

The futures of LeCras and Mackenzie, along with the unresolved situation with out-of-contract Sharrod Wellingham, have been hot topics as the Eagles prepared to transition from the oldest list in the competition this year.

LeCras struggled with inconsistency and various ailments including a sore hip this season, but still booted 32 goals in 19 games in a forward line that lacked supply.

Mackenzie, who turns 30 next year, potentially saved his career in the second half of the season, playing 13 of the final 15 games and rediscovering some solid form at full-back.

"We are pleased that both players have re-signed and will be a part of our 2018 campaign," Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said.

"They are quality people who have made significant contributions to our club and we believe they will continue to be important players for us.

"Mark is one of the smartest forwards in the game and Eric finished the season strongly as part of our defensive structure, so it will be great to have their experience and ability as part of the squad for at least one more season."

LeCras, 31, is only four games shy of becoming the 20th Eagle to join the 200 club, and has kicked 409 goals to sit third on West Coast's all-time goalkicking chart.

Star spearhead Josh Kennedy (508) is poised to overtake club great Peter Sumich's record of 514 majors early next season.

Mackenzie, who turns 30 next year, needs only three appearances to reach the 150-game milestone and qualify for life membership.

The 2014 club champion struggled last year coming off a knee reconstruction, but his ability to lock down on opposition key forwards late in this year's campaign complimented Jeremy McGovern's and Tom Barrass' intercept marking strengths.
