DEVON Smith and Adam Tomlinson are required players at Greater Western Sydney, with the club planning to shelve its recent policy of recruiting experience and head to this year's draft instead.

Smith, 24, is out of contract and seemingly out of favour after failing to play in any of the Giants' finals.

The Victorian, who hails from Lara near Geelong, didn't travel to Adelaide for the qualifying final against the Crows because of a knee injury.

He resumed training the following week, but was overlooked when retiring veteran Steve Johnson was included for the semi-final, while Matt de Boer, who was picked over Johnson in week one, held his spot.

"We'd really like him to stay," Giants' football manager Wayne Campbell told SEN on Monday.

"We've had a contract in front of him for two or three months now, so there'll be lots of talk over the next two to three weeks, but we'd like Devon to stay for sure."

Tomlinson, also 24, is contracted until the end of 2019 after signing an extension in February this year, but it hasn't stopped his name from being linked to a range of Melbourne-based clubs, given his Victorian roots.

"I don't think there's been an off-season where Adam's name hasn't been brought up for whatever reason," Campbell said.

"He's contracted, and I think he was almost our best player on the weekend.

"We had some players who were reasonably consistent across the game, but he was probably the most consistent.

"We're pretty happy with where Adam's at."

This season, the Giants added Brett Deledio and de Boer to their crop of experienced players, after recruiting Johnson, Sam Reid, Ryan Griffen, Joel Patfull, Josh Hunt, Shane Mumford and Heath Shaw in past years.

Campbell said there were no plans to go down a similar path this off-season, with the November 24 NAB AFL Draft their priority.

"We're pretty happy with the list we've got," he said.

"We need to improve a number of things across the board, but we topped up a little bit at the end of last year and I think that helped us out because we had so many injuries across the board.

"We're pretty happy with the balance and blend of our list in terms of experience and games, and the majority of our players are still reasonably young.

"The club's done a really good job with [Heath] Shaw, [Shane] Mumford, [Steve] Johnson, [Brett] Deledio.

"I don't think we'll be looking for any more experienced players. We'll go to the draft."
