CARLTON has secured speedy Geelong youngster Darcy Lang for pick No.58 and a swap of future fourth-round picks.

The Blues won the race for Lang's services ahead of North Melbourne and Gold Coast.

Lang played 44 games and booted 31 goals for the Cats after being taken with pick No.16 overall in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

The 21-year-old could have stayed at Geelong but leaves in search of more midfield opportunities.

Lang made 10 appearances for Geelong this year, with his season interrupted by a cracked fibula against Fremantle in round 14.

He was outstanding in his return game in the semi-final victory over Sydney, racking up 24 touches and six tackles.

He followed former Giants onballer Matthew Kennedy and ex-Power ruckman Matthew Lobbe to Carlton on the final day of the Trade Period.

The Blues have been busy players on deadline day, also dealing veteran Bryce Gibbs to Adelaide.

Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni believed Lang would add to the club's midfield depth.

"We think we’ve got young talent coming through," Silvagni said.

"Depth-wise, with the older age boys, possibly, but we bring in Darcy Lang and Matthew Kennedy, who will be a 21-year-old next year.

"We think the natural improvement of the guys like (Sam) Petrevski-Seton and Zac Fisher may force us to play some other guys through the midfield, but we’re confident we’ve got the depth there."

Geelong list boss Stephen Wells wished Lang well in his pursuit of more opportunities.

"Once Darcy told us that he was seeking more opportunities at another and nominated Carlton, we understood his situation," Wells said.

"We were disappointed to lose Darcy but once he did decide to leave, we were able to get that deal done with Carlton."
