COLLINGWOOD high-flyer Jeremy Howe is expecting a change to the way the Woolworths Mark of the Year is decided after he was controversially denied the award this season.

Howe was left smarting after missing out on the prize despite being the hot favourite for his screaming mark over Melbourne's Tom McDonald on Queen's Birthday this season.

The award, voted on by the public, went to Essendon's Joe Daniher instead.

Howe joked he still wasn't over the result, but inside sources confirmed he was less than impressed with being overlooked.

"There's not much you can do about it," Howe said on Monday.

"I'll just have to go harder next year.

"Word coming from above is they're going to change it to a bit of a panel and it's not going to be voted on by the public, but I'll just see how I go. I'll just have another crack."

The result was announced at September's Brownlow Medal count, and Howe was left to try and disguise his surprise when it was Daniher's name read out.

"I don't think I masked it that well," he said.

"If it happens next time, I might just have to look at the table the whole time.

"It's all fun and games, Joey's a great player and he takes good grabs, so I'll just have to go higher next year."

The AFL has confirmed it will review the voting process, but is yet to announce a decision.
