SYDNEY players have sweltered through a brutal two-hour training session that saw plenty of the club's biggest names on show at their pre-season camp in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday.

After interrupted summers due to injury or man management, captain Josh Kennedy, superstar forward Lance Franklin, Isaac Heeney, Tom Papley, Gary Rohan, Aliir Aliir and Sam Naismith all hit the track and moved well.

JLT Community Series: When's your team playing?

With the temperature hovering around 30 degrees and humidity at 80 per cent, the Swans struggled in the conditions at times, but coach John Longmire was a happy man looking on as the majority of his squad slogged it out in a spirited session.

Franklin, who had surgery on both knees and an ankle in the off-season, looked particularly impressive during a mixture of ball movement drills and match simulation.

The four-time Coleman medallist won’t play in this weekend’s AFLX tournament but will feature during the JLT Community Series, with Longmire lauding the key forward’s professionalism.

"He’s really looked after himself during the summer," Longmire said.

"He did a lot of work when he couldn’t even run and got himself in really good condition.

"We’re working out what he might do in next week’s practice game against Greater Western Sydney, but he’ll have a big session on Saturday and see how he pulls up from that."

Midfielder Dan Hannebery and veteran Heath Grundy look to be the only minor worries for the Swans, with both stars nursing calf injuries.

Hannebery warmed into his work on Wednesday with some low intensity running before doing some short kicking, with Grundy slightly ahead of his teammate in his recovery.

"Grundy is probably going to up his training a bit more next week, he had a really good running program on Monday," Longmire said.

"He’s pulled up quite well from that so we’re hoping he’s not far away from coming back into full training.

"This is an important three-week training period for us to integrate those senior players back into the full program as the match conditioning and competition ramps up."

Jarrad McVeigh, Zak Jones and Callum Mills were all on light duties on Wednesday but should all play some footy during the JLT series.
