PADDY McCartin will play his first game for St Kilda since round 12 last year after being named by the Saints to tackle Carlton on Wednesday night.

McCartin, who battled concussion issues in the second half of last season, has enjoyed a strong pre-season and will line up for the Saints in the JLT Community Series clash at Ikon Park.

The Saints will also welcome back David Armitage after a groin injury limited him to just two games last season, while top-10 picks from last year's NAB AFL Draft Hunter Clark and Nick Coffield have also been selected in what is a strong St Kilda squad. 

A hamstring injury has ruled out Saints gun Jack Billings from playing in his side's first pre-season game.

The Blues will also show off some new faces, with former North Melbourne defender Aaron Mullett, former Giant Matthew Kennedy and ex-Gold Coast speedster Jarrod Garlett picked for the contest after being recruited last off-season.

Darcy Lang, who the Blues secured from Geelong during last year's trade period, will not play.

After already getting a taste of the top level in this month's AFLX competition, Carlton has also picked top-10 draft picks Paddy Dow and Lochie O'Brien for their first full outings in Blues colours. 

Captain Marc Murphy will also be out there, alongside midfield star Patrick Cripps and important ruckman Matthew Kreuzer.
