PORT Adelaide star Ollie Wines says he will sign a new contract with Port Adelaide when his heart is set on it.

The 23-year-old will become a restricted free agent at season's end, and rival clubs will be lining up the Victorian's signature if he can't come to terms with the Power.

Wines told SEN on Tuesday while he still needs time to make a decision on his future, he and the club are content with contract negotiations.

"For me, a contract is a big thing. It’s a binding thing that you have got to make sure that your heart is set on,” Wines said.

"At the moment, I just need a couple of more weeks just to dot the i’s and cross the t’s and make sure I am 100 per cent comfortable.

"It’s going to be a two or three year (agreement) that I am in Adelaide a bit longer.

"The club has been fully comfortable with me having a bit of extra time to talk to my family and friends to make sure I make the right decision."

Touted as a successor for Power captain Travis Boak, Wines realises the hysteria surrounding player contract negotiations, but thanked the Port faithful for their patience and assured them a deal will be struck.

"I understand these days there is going to be a bit of speculation about people being out of contract," Wines said.

"Football has turned into a bit of a business. Free agency has come in and players can move so freely between clubs, so there is going to be a lot of interest there. The interest from the Port Adelaide fans I felt was good because they care about having me around.

"They’re very respectful now that I want a little bit of extra time just to make sure things are right. It will get done sooner rather than later."
