PORT Adelaide forward Todd Marshall has returned to the club following the death of his father and could play in the SANFL this weekend.

Marshall has been on compassionate leave since his dad Robert passed away on April 23.

The 19-year-old returned to Adelaide to watch the Power beat cross-town rival Adelaide by five points in their round eight Showdown 44 on May 12.

Marshall continued to train at his local footy club while he was back in his hometown of Deniliquin in the NSW Riverina region.

He could line up for the Port Adelaide Magpies for their SANFL game against North Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday.

The Power have their mid-season AFL bye this weekend after they beat Gold Coast by 40 points in Shanghai last Saturday.

Marshall could then be available for the Power's round 11 game against Hawthorn in Launceston on June 2.

It's been an extremely difficult time for Marshall, after his mother Mary lost her battle with cancer in October last year.

Marshall played the first four games of the season, kicking nine goals, before he was concussed in the round four loss to Essendon, and missed the round five game against Geelong.
