MELBOURNE has booked midfielder Dom Tyson in for surgery on Sunday night after he suffered a broken arm in the Demons' 45-point win over Greater Western Sydney.

The Demons will assess the severity of the AC joint injury Dean Kent suffered to his right shoulder on Monday, with coach Simon Goodwin hoping the injury is not as bad as first feared.

"Dom's having surgery now, so he's going in at seven or eight o'clock tonight (Sunday night) just to get his arm fixed up," Goodwin said.

"We're still hopeful for only two or three weeks for Dom and Dean we're going to have to assess a little bit more tomorrow.

"It's probably not as bad as we first thought but we'll have to assess that AC joint and make sure we've got a bit of clarity on what that looks like."

In better news, Goodwin said both Jack Viney (foot) and Mitch Hannan (knee), who was a late withdrawal for the game against the Giants, would be available for the club's elimination final clash with Geelong.

"Jack trained really strong today (Sunday morning), he did a really large session. He'll now drop in line with the group; he's physically ready to go," Goodwin said.

"So that gives us a couple more weeks to prepare him.

"Mitch had a little bit of knee soreness so we're really hopeful that he'll be available for us."

Jayden Hunt (ankle) and Joel Smith (collarbone) are both set to play for Casey in its VFL finals match-up against Geelong next weekend in a bid to press their claim for selection in the AFL a week later.

Kent's afternoon came to an early end when he injured his right shoulder after coming off second best in a ground level contest with Giant Lachie Whitfield as the pair battled for the loose ball.

The speedy forward was in pain and immediately went down to the rooms to get assessed by the club's medical staff and was later taken to hospital for assessment.

Tyson suffered his broken arm after copping an accidental kick from teammate Max Gawn in the second quarter.

The midfielder, who had been one of Melbourne's best up until half-time, tried to stay on the field but came to the interchange bench and was assessed by the club's medical staff down in the rooms.

The Melbourne players will have a few days off before getting back to the club to train later in the week with the focus on turning up the intensity in the lead in to its elimination finals clash against Geelong in a fortnight's time.
