EXCITING Adelaide defender Wayne Milera is willing to play wherever he's needed as the Crows focus on a fresh start.

Milera is among the group of first-to-fourth-year players who are into their second week of pre-season training.

The 21-year-old – the No.11 overall pick in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft – was a bright spot in a tough campaign for the Crows, using his pace and bravado to great effect across half-back in the absence of the injured Brodie Smith.

FULL FIXTURE Every round, every game

Milera's role could change with Smith having made a full recovery from the torn ACL that cost him most of last season.

"I'm training (at half-back) at the moment, but I'm open to anything, we'll see how we go," Milera told reporters on Tuesday.

"Half-back's been good, but I'm happy to play wherever, wherever they need me, I'm happy.

"If it's going up forward again or through midfield or stay at half-back, I'm happy to play wherever."

Milera said the Crows' young players had returned in great shape having kept in contact with senior players during the off-season break.

MUST-WATCH GAMES The 22 you won't want to miss

"We got linked up with a leader and other players, so I was with Daniel Talia, Tom Doedee and Alex Keath," Milera said.

"We kept in contact over the phone, just making sure we're doing our work and getting it in."

The Crows are coming off a forgettable season in which the 2017 grand finalists could never recover from the controversial pre-season camp on the Gold Coast and a string of hamstring injuries.

Milera said everything had been put to bed and they were looking forward to next year.

"It's only the young boys back at the moment and a couple of the senior boys have rolled through, but there's definitely a good feeling among the group," he said.

"Last year's all done, we're over that, we're going to focus on next year and attack this pre-season and get ready for the season.

"We want to get back to playing the footy we know we can play."

TOUGHEST DRAW? Champion Data ranks every club

Milera said his main focus this pre-season was around injury prevention, having had trouble with his knee in the past two or three years.

The entire Crows squad returns to training next Monday, starting with a 2km time trial.

Milera was speaking at Ronald McDonald House in North Adelaide as 24 riders prepare for a 1000km, seven-day charity bike ride from Port Lincoln to Adelaide, starting on Sunday.
