WESTERN Bulldogs bionic man Dale Morris appears destined to play on in 2020 after overcoming his latest injury setback.

The 36-year-old will play his first AFL match this season against Fremantle on Sunday, just 19 weeks after partially tearing his ACL.

Dogs coach Luke Beveridge revealed conversations were ongoing with Morris that would likely see his career extend into a 16th season.

"If he's physically OK and he's playing good footy and we believe he can next year, then he'll go on," Beveridge said on Friday.

"I think he'll put up his hand if he's not right, but I can't see that happening, I think he's going to be fine.

"I think Dale wants to play until his legs fall off, and we're open to that as long as he continues to belong at the level.

"I suppose it's an important time for him to re-establish himself, and we'd be delighted to think he plays good footy in the back end of this year and he's playing in 2020."

IS THE BIRD DEAD? Bevo gets theatrical for Dog debut

Morris has played the past four weeks in the VFL, and will return to defence to tackle the Dockers' tall forwards with both club's seasons on the line at Marvel Stadium.

Both the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle sit one game and more than 10 per cent outside the top eight with five matches remaining.

"There's no wriggle room. We let one slip last week (against St Kilda) and I wouldn't imagine we're much of a chance if we drop any more," Beveridge said.

The Dogs have also confirmed a second change, debutant Rhylee West joining Morris in the side with Matt Suckling (back) and Josh Schache (concussion) going out.

Beveridge left the door ajar for a second debutant in mature-age ruckman Jordon Sweet, which would see beanpole Tim English spend more time in attack.

A decision will be finalised by 5pm AEST on Friday.
