CARLTON rookie Michael Gibbons' AFL journey will continue into season 2020, with the club's pre-season recruit signing a new one-year deal with the Blues.

The club announced that Gibbons and defender Hugh Goddard had both penned rookie extensions on Tuesday morning, ensuring they will remain at Ikon Park next season.

For Gibbons, the former VFL star and two-time JJ Liston Trophy winner, it caps a remarkable year after the 23-year-old was snubbed at a sixth successive NAB AFL Draft last November.

He was later signed by the Blues as a pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) recruit, going on to play 21 out of a possible 22 games for the club in his maiden season.

Goddard also re-signs with the Blues, having played two senior games for the club this year after being recruited as the first pick at last November's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"Michael and Hugh walked into our football club with a point to prove and their professionalism and work ethic impressed us all, right from day one," the club's list boss Stephen Silvagni said.

"Both guys have made the most of their opportunity at AFL level and have fit in really well into our system. We are looking forward to seeing them continue to develop and hone their craft next season."
