IT WAS a five-horse race littered with AFL superstars.

But dual Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin will wear the No.4 for Victoria.

The League has ruled the guernsey numbers for Friday night's State of Origin bushfire relief match will be decided by who has played the most games in that particular jumper.

Martin, given he has represented Richmond a total of 203 times in the No.4 jumper and a further 21 times in the No.36 jumper, therefore won out on this occasion.

Marcus Bontempelli (127 games), Toby Greene (126 games), Shaun Higgins (91 games) and Jade Gresham (63 games) will subsequently be forced to different lockers.

Josh Kelly, Todd Goldstein and Steele Sidebottom were also forced to vie for the Victorian No.22 jumper, while Patrick Cripps and Lachie Neale fought for the All Stars' No.9 guernsey.

They were among a number of high-profile battles for particular lockers.
