THE TWO coaches who have guided their teams into the Foxtel Cup grand final, Claremont's Simon McPhee and Williamstown's Peter German, are adamant the competition has been a success.

The first Foxtel Cup champion will be crowned on Saturday when the Tigers and Seagulls do battle at Patersons Stadium in a match scheduled to begin at 5pm AEST.

"I've really enjoyed it," McPhee said. "It's been a great experience for all of us - players, coaches and medical staff.

"It's been something different for us and a really great experience."

German, who played 185 games for North Melbourne and also coached Subiaco in the WAFL between 2004 and '06, backed McPhee's sentiments.

"It's been outstanding," he said. "I think it's been great exposure for the boys on a national stage.

"The worry has been that it does make the season longer, so we've tried to rest some of our senior players.

"That means it's been a great opportunity to play a lot of younger players, so from our point of view it's just been an outstanding success."

Claremont lost last year's WAFL grand final to Swan Districts by one point, and senior player Andrew Browne hopes a win in the Foxtel Cup decider will go some way to erasing those bad memories.

"Our main focus this year is to go one better in the WAFL, but we're rapt to have progressed so far in the Foxtel Cup," Browne said.

"You give it everything in any grand final that you play in any competition, and we'll have a red-hot crack this weekend."

Claremont is currently second on the WAFL ladder, while Williamstown is second on the VFL table.
