History will be created twice on Saturday night with the Brisbane Lions set to wear its predominantly white clash guernsey for the first time at the Gabba when they battle Gold Coast SUNS in QClash1.

The AFL have identified similarities between the Lions and SUNS’ home guernseys - both are deemed to feature similar primary colours - and have notified the Club to wear its clash strip to avoid any on-field confusion, with Saturday night’s historic clash at the Gabba classified as a Gold Coast home game.

Star ruckman Matthew Leuenberger said he hoped Lions members and supporters turned up in the Club’s traditional strip to make up for its absence on-field.

“Even though we’ll be wearing white on the field, it’ll be fantastic to see so many of our members and supporters wearing our colours in the crowd,” he said.

“I think that’s an important thing for the Club and the atmosphere that’ll surround this game.

“QClash1 is all about two Queensland tribes coming together for the first time and I’m sure it’ll be a special night.”

The Lions wore the same white clash guernsey against the SUNS back in March when the two teams faced off in a NAB Challenge practice match at Southport on the Gold Coast.
