After helping the Sydney Swans Reserves team to three straight wins, Jarred Moore has been recalled into the seniors team and is hoping to make the same sort of impact.

Moore has been rewarded for his performance over the past few weeks, which included being named in the best players for Reserves three times, with a spot in the side to play Melbourne at Manuka Oval on Sunday.

While Moore played 23 seniors game in 2008, he has been in and out of the team this year, playing 11 AFL games and five Reserves games.

The 23-year-old has spent the past four weeks playing for Reserves, and was impressive in their 120-point win over Queanbeyan last weekend with three goals and 36 disposals.

“Coming into the game I wanted to be able to use the ball well and make the most of the opportunities and I think I did that. I think it was a team effort though,” he said.

Moore had a breakthrough season in 2008 and is now hoping to keep his spot in the seniors line up for the rest of the year.

“It’s a bit disappointing this season, I haven’t been able to string as many games together and the consistency hasn’t been there.

“I’ve got six weeks to go in the season and hopefully I can play some consistent footy.”

The Swans have won their last four games against the Demons and Moore is hoping that the team can improve on last week’s performance against Carlton.

“We played all right for two and a half quarters on the weekend, so it was pretty disappointing to drop off in the last quarter and some parts of the third.

“We’ll be looking to play some good quality footy for four quarters this week instead of playing inconsistently, so that’s something we’ll have to work on and something we’ll be working on during the week.”

Moore is philosophical about the team’s chances of playing finals in 2009, but thinks it’s more important for the side to take it one match at a time.

“Mathematically we can [make finals] but I think if we start looking at that it’s probably not the right thing to do,” he said.

“We just have to concentrate on what we can do and win the next match and also how we play and how we go about it will be more important than winning.”

Moore also says it is important for the younger players that have been promoted to the seniors side to make the most of the chances given to them.

“They’ve got to take the opportunity. We haven’t won as many games as we would’ve liked, it’s definitely an opportunity to try out the younger guys and see what they are like.”

The Swans Reserves have a bye this weekend, with the team having mixed reactions on whether it will be beneficial considering the team’s form in recent weeks.

“I think most of the boys would want to play this weekend and give themselves a chance to keep their form going but I think a few of the older boys might  need a bit of a rest as well,” Moore said.

“It wont hurt a few of the boys but some of the boys would’ve liked to play I think.”

Moore is confident that as long as the reserves team plays consistent footy for their last three round games they can make their fifth consecutive AFL Canberra finals appearance.

“There’s a lot of senior blokes back playing ressies at the moment too helping the reserves a lot and if we can get a few numbers together …we can definitely do that [make the grand final].”

“It’s been a struggle there for a while but if we can get a good team on the paddock we can definitely ruffle some feathers.”
