Established in 2010, The Huddle is a joint initiative of the North Melbourne Football Club, the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation with the aim to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities.

Since inception, The Huddle programs have engaged more than 50,000 young people from the areas of North Melbourne, Flemington, Kensington and West Melbourne.  More recently, The Huddle’s programs have grown to support youth in some of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities, including Wyndham and Hume.

The Huddle leverages the influence of sport and recreation, education, digital and communications to engage, support and empower young people to Learn and Grow. We are passionate about helping young people Belong to a community that embraces social inclusion.

The Huddle’s work has been recognised as innovative and best practice, evidenced by numerous awards, including (but not limited to);

  • 2012 Victorian Premier’s Award for Community Harmony;
  • 2013 National Migration and Settlement Awards for Leadership; and
  • 2014 Victorian Community Sport and Recreation Minister’s Award.

Overview

The Regional Manager, Wyndham is a newly created position with lead responsibility for establishing and growing The Huddle across Wyndham.

As a senior leader of The Huddle, this position will be the primary point of contact for all programs delivered in the region.

The position is full-time with a fixed term three-year contract to be offered to the successful candidate.

Responsibilities and duties

The Regional Manager will:

  • Lead responsibility for delivery against The Huddle’s Strategy and Action Plan at a regional level.
  • Be responsible for a regional team, including casual and volunteer workforce.
  • Regularly exchange knowledge and information with other Managers and North Melbourne FC staff to strengthen the reach, impacts and benefits of The Huddle.
  • Lead the design, implementation and evaluation of programs at a regional level to maximise participation outcomes with a focus on young people from culturally diverse communities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships at a regional level to support effective delivery of programs.
  • Proactively identify suitable partners and/or grants to support The Huddle’s programs.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets.
  • Regularly identify stories and case studies to support high quality and timely communications.
  • Represent The Huddle in an advisory and advocacy capacity on regional and local working groups to advance the strategic outcomes of The Huddle.
  • Establish and maintain program schedules across multiple locations to maximise participation outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming ‘learning environment’ for all participants taking into account the diverse mix of cultural and religious requirements.

Skills and attributes

The Regional Manager will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in the fields of youth, community development, not-for-profit and/or corporate social responsibility;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to empower young people and promote social inclusion will be highly regarded;
  • Evidence of strong partnerships across government, corporate, local community, faith-based groups, amongst others to support the planning and delivery of large-scale programs to address complex issues;
  • Experience with delivering programs for diverse groups;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, business acumen, financial literacy, interpersonal, presentation, analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills;
  • Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to different situations and groups of people; and
  • Team worker, with a ‘can do’ mentality.

Key selection criteria

In addition to demonstrating the skills and attributes listed above, the successful candidate for this role will have:

  • An understanding of the issues facing young people aged 12-25 from culturally diverse backgrounds in inner Melbourne and how to support them;
  • Relevant experience with program delivery for culturally diverse groups;
  • Excellent level communication skills (oral and written);
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee large-scale program planning, delivery and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated experience working with a broad range of stakeholders to contribute to positive lasting benefits locally;
  • Ability to represent The Huddle and the NMFC appropriately when working with community, program partners and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • To undergo a selection process including interviews, reference checks, a National Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check. Any placement or position is subject to satisfactory checks.
  • Ability to follow the policies and procedures of The Huddle
  • To participate in regular meetings for support, training and review
  • Be over the age of 18

Location

The position is based at The Huddle at the Youth Resource Centre, Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing reporting to the General Manager, Community Engagement at the North Melbourne Football Club.
