CONTROVERSIAL recruit Jake Carlisle will wear the No.2 guernsey for St Kilda in 2016.

The club's high-priced defender, who made the move from Essendon in the off-season, has been allocated the number made famous by Danny Frawley and more recently Aaron Hamill.

Carlisle was suspended for the opening two games of the season after accepting a strike under the AFL's illicit drugs policy.

The 24-year-old also forfeited $50,000 in marketing money after video emerged showing him snorting a white powder. The video was made public within hours of the talented tall being traded from Essendon.

Carlisle wore the No.22 jumper in recent seasons with the Bombers.

Fellow recruit Nathan Freeman will don the No.10 at his new club after being traded from Collingwood.

The Saints announced on Wednesday the injury-plagued youngster had injured his troublesome right hamstring again.

There were nine new numbers assigned at St Kilda, with Jack Lonie, who wore No.37 in 2015, deciding to adopt Adam Schneider's No.13.

Hugh Goddard has moved from No.33 into the No.23 - made famous by key forward Stewart Loewe.

First-round draft pick (No.18 overall) Jade Gresham has been handed Farren Ray's old No.22 while fellow draftee Brandon White will wear No.31.

Father-son pick Bailey Rice has been allocated the No.37 jumper.

Rookie selections Nick O’Kearney and Nick Coughlan have been allocated No.33 and No.38 respectively.
