The AFLCA is pleased to announce that John Worsfold will take over from David Parkin as Chairman of the AFL Coaches Association, effective immediately.

The role of the Chairman of the Board of Management is an important one for the AFLCA and John is ideally placed to do it:

  1. He has been involved in AFL football since 1987 and is held in very high esteem at AFL House (he’s on the AFL’s Laws of the Game Committee);
  2. His record as a Coach over 14 years (at Carlton as an Assistant Coach and West Coast as Senior Coach) is outstanding and he has been unanimously endorsed as Chairman of the AFLCA by the 18 Senior Coaches;
  3. Since finishing at West Coast, John has become a Consultant for SevenWest Media, a Director of Leap Performance, has worked for CR Steel and has recently joined the Board of Trustees for the SAS Resources Trust (he’s also a qualified Pharmacist) providing increasing exposure to the commercial world outside an AFL Club; and
  4. He assisted in the recent Independent Review of the AFLCA so is aware of the challenges the AFLCA face.

As chairman, John will lead the AFLCA Board of Management responsible for:

  1. Leadership and setting the AFLCA’s strategic Objectives;
  2. Overseeing Management’s implementation of the strategic Objectives and its performance generally;
  3. Approving operating budgets and capital expenditure;
  4. Approving remuneration; and
  5. Monitoring the effectiveness of the AFLCA’s governance practices.

John’s appointment is an important one because there are very few people who have his understanding of the AFL industry, his respect in the Coaching community and his commercial nous.

In closing, the AFLCA Board thanks David Parkin for his contribution as outgoing Chairman.  There will be a more appropriate Thank You for Parko at the AFLCA Awards Dinner on 23rd September.
