MELBOURNE midfielder Brent Moloney will join the Brisbane Lions provided he passes a medical examination on Thursday.

Moloney's agent Bruce Kaider confirmed the news to Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday, saying the Lions had offered a two-year deal for the restricted free agent.

"Subject to a medical in Brisbane tomorrow he'll hopefully sign a contract with the Lions by the end of the week," Kaider told AFL.com.au.

"We're just really happy that Brent's been able to continue his AFL career."

Moloney returns to Melbourne from holiday on Thursday and will immediately travel with Kaider to Brisbane for the medical test and meeting with coach Michael Voss.

"There's no reason why he won't pass the medical he's in great condition," Kaider said.

"You never say never, there's always elements of doubt, but there's no reason it won't happen if he passes the medical."

The 28-year-old has played 122 games with the Demons (after 23 with Geelong), but fell out of favour under new coach Mark Neeld, playing 15 matches this season.

He won the Demons' best and fairest in 2011.

While Melbourne has 72 hours to match any offer the Lions make, it has indicated it is unwilling to do so.

Kaider said Moloney has some good mates at the Lions, including Jonathan Brown and Matt Maguire.
