FREMANTLE
Hayden Ballantyne has been all but ruled out of the semi-final following jaw surgery on Monday. If he doesn't play, then the Dockers do have like-for-like replacements and they did beat Hawthorn without Ballantyne in round 21. Hayden Crozier started as the sub against the Sydney Swans and would almost certainly come into the 21. The Dockers' WAFL affiliate Peel Thunder missed the finals so none of the players on the fringe played last weekend. The sub options could be Matt de Boer and Nick Suban. Ross Lyon also mentioned Clancee Pearce as a possible option. Anthony Morabito is highly unlikely although has been mentioned as a consideration. Luke McPharlin will ramp up his training this week as he attempts to return from a calf problem that has kept him out since round 20. He is unlikely this week but should Fremantle win he is being prepared to play in the preliminary final. - Alex Malcolm
GEELONG
How the Cats' team will look on Friday night is very much up in the air at the moment. Ruckman Hamish McIntosh has been ruled out, which means Mark Blicavs and Josh Walker are likely to carry the rucking load. McIntosh is set to be replaced by a tall forward, with Mitch Brown and Shane Kersten in contention. Allen Christensen remains in the mix, although the club is still trying to determine how serious his back problem is. Then there's Steve Johnson, who continues to be dogged by foot soreness. At this stage, Johnson seems likely to play. If he doesn't, Lincoln McCarthy, Jed Bews and Brad Hartman are among the potential replacements. - Adam McNicol
NORTH MELBOURNE
North will welcome back Brent Harvey (suspension) for Friday night's semi-final against Geelong, with defender Ben Jacobs the most likely player to make way for the star veteran. Leigh Adams (concussion) should be available for selection after sitting out the elimination final win against Essendon, but the forward is no certainty to force his way back into the Roos' team despite not missing a home and way game this year. After playing just one game in the past five weeks, key defender Lachlan Hansen (hip) is extremely unlikely to be fit to take on the Cats. However, North emerged from last Saturday night's game with few injury concerns and coach Brad Scott is unlikely to make many changes after such a stirring win. Forward Mason Wood kept his name in the selectors' minds with a solid performance for Werribee in the VFL finals last Sunday. - Nick Bowen
PORT ADELAIDE
Matt White suffered a small crack in his jaw against Richmond last week, an injury that saw him subbed out of the elimination final before half-time, but the club remains hopeful he'll be available for its semi-final against Fremantle. Should he fail to play, Power have other options. Ben Newton (26 disposals, 10 clearances, two goals) and Aaron Young (25 disposals, nine clearances) were both good in Port's SANFL finals loss, while Kane Mitchell didn't play due to being the senior emergency. Mitchell's speed could see him selected if White doesn't play as a like-for-like replacement. Jarman Impey was brought into the side in round 23 to handle Hayden Ballantyne, and Ken Hinkley said he was a possibility to come back into the side to tackle a similar role. If that were to be the case, Cam O'Shea would likely be the unlucky omission. - Harry Thring
