FOUR current and former Under-18 All Australians headline the NAB AFLW Academy intake for 2023.

Three of the quartet hail from South Australia – mid-forward Shineah Goody, ruck Matilda Scholz and tall utility Lauren Young – with Tasmanian midfielder Brooke Barwick rounding out the group.

Young, a very tall midfielder at 179cm, was in the Under-19 All-Australian side in 2021 before she'd turned 16, having received special permission to play in the national championships.

She suffered an ACL tear in November last year, ruling her out of the 2022 edition.

Darcy Davies, sister of Gold Coast's Giselle and Greater Western Sydney's Fleur, is also part of this year's Academy.

The AFLW Academy – which will once again be coached by Tarkyn Lockyer – will have camps in January, April and June, a match (the details of which are yet to be confirmed), and will also take part in high-performance and development programs both in-person and online.

This year saw the Academy take on a Vic/Tas/NT Under-23 All-Stars side.

"Selection in the NAB AFL and AFLW Academy is a significant achievement, and all players are thoroughly deserving of their place in the squads," Lockyer said.

"It is extremely pleasing to again have all states and territories represented in this year’s intake and highlights Australian football remains the first-choice sport for our country’s most talented young athletes.

"We are very excited about the high level of talent within this group of future stars of the AFL and AFLW, many of whom have already showcased their outstanding skills and abilities at representative level.

"As part of their selection in the 2023 NAB AFL and AFLW Academy, players will be given the opportunity to continue to develop on and off the field under the guidance of expert coaching, high performance and wellbeing staff.

"They will also be given the opportunity to be part of AFL and AFLW environments by attend training sessions with AFL and AFLW clubs, which will provide first-hand experience of the standards required to make it at the highest level."

Drafted members of the 2022 Academy were J'Noemi Anderson, Charlotte Baskaran, Amber Clarke, Fleur Davies, Mackenzie Eardley, Hannah Ewings, Jasmine Fleming, Alana Gee, Montana Ham, Cynthia Hamilton, Bridie Hipwell, Sofia Hurley, Keeley Kustermann, Claire Ransom, Ella Roberts, Paige Scott, Ella Smith (Brisbane) and Lauren Wakfer.
