The AFL congratulates Port Adelaide’s Gemma Houghton after the forward became the first AFLW player to kick 100 career goals in the competition.

The history-making moment came on Saturday at Henson Park against the GWS GIANTS. Taking a mark in the forward 50 with only seconds to go in the game, the 31-year-old went back and slotted goal one hundred – and her fourth for the game – after the siren.

Starting her AFLW career at Fremantle, the Western Australian played 46 games and kicked 40 goals for the Dockers before heading to Port Adelaide in 2022 – the team she grew up supporting.

Houghton kicked Port’s inaugural goal in the competition and has now booted 60 majors so far for the Power.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon congratulated Houghton on kicking 100 career goals and creating history.

“On behalf of the AFL I’d like to congratulate Gemma on her incredible achievement, becoming the first AFLW player to reach 100 career goals,” Dillon said.

“The history-making moment certainly came down to the wire – kicking her 100th goal after the siren – and it was amazing to see all her Port teammates celebrate after the game. They were terrific scenes that now form part of the game’s history."

Melbourne’s Kate Hore who played last night against Geelong and increased her total to 99 goals after kicking one, along with North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ Jasmine Garner who is on 97 majors, are in line to become the next players to reach 100 career goals as they prepare to play in the 2025 NAB AFLW Finals Series.

This season has also seen the first AFLW players reach 100 games with Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide Crows), Ally Anderson (Brisbane Lions), Libby Birch (Kangaroos), Tahlia Randall (Kangaroos), Breanna Koenen (Brisbane Lions), Shannon Campbell (Brisbane Lions), Jasmine Garner (Kangaroos) and Anne Hatchard (Adelaide Crows) all achieving the milestone.
