NORTH Melbourne continues to be the benchmark of the AFLW competition, which can only be a good thing for the League's growth and development, according to a trio of rival players.Â
The Kangaroos have been unstoppable in recent seasons and are showing no signs of slowing down, dismantling Geelong by 73 points in round one at Marvel Stadium.Â
Darren Crocker's side has become the benchmark of the competition, which means it's now up to rival clubs to increase their standards and reach North Melbourne's level.
"Is this Kangaroos dominance a good thing for the competition?" Collingwood defender Jordyn Allen began on AFL.com.au's Tagged.
"I think it's great that they're dominant," Richmond veteran Sarah Hosking replied.
"I think it's great to have that standard and try to get all of the other teams to play to that high standard like they do," Western Bulldogs youngster Elaine Grigg added.
"That's where you want the benchmark to be, they're the pinnacle of the competition. We shouldn't bring teams down for that… We want the whole competition to rise to North Melbourne," Hosking said.
The Roos come up against fellow powerhouse Brisbane this weekend and the trio believes that winning the midfield battle, which is a strength of Brisbane's, is the key to stopping North Melbourne's incredible streak.
"I think it starts in the midfield, if anything's going to happen, they've got to beat the North midfielders and go from there," Grigg said.
"Brisbane scored over 60 points from stoppage, they're very strong at the contest. They've got that ability to hit the scoreboard from stoppage. They're dangerous and looked like a very dangerous side against Essendon," Hosking replied.Â
The Lions could be bolstered by the return of star midfielder Ally Anderson this weekend, but forward Dakota Davidson has been handed a one-match ban for striking.
And Craig Starcevich's Lions do look a little bit different from the side that the Roos beat in last year's decider.Â
Youngster Marlo Graham has provided a spark; Claudia Wright has taken big strides in pre-season and former Pie Lily-Rose Williamson has also made the switch to Springfield.Â
"If any team can do it, it's Brisbane," Allen said.
