Going nowhere: Star Pie knocks back Lions, signs two-year deal

Get Excited, Pies: The best of re-signed forward Jamie Elliott Collingwood star Jamie Elliott is staying at the club and fans look forward to many more of these highlights

JAMIE Elliott is staying at Collingwood to chase an AFL premiership.

The 27-year-old forward confirmed his wish to stay at the Pies on Monday night with a two-year deal, knocking back more lucrative three-year offers from Brisbane and Melbourne.

The Demons were told by Monday morning they were out of the race and the Lions alerted late on Monday, just two days after Elliott toured the club's Gabba facilities.

It is believed Elliott's dialogue in meetings with Brisbane on Saturday gave the Lions the impression his heart remained set on black and white.

Despite seeing vision of their forward visiting a rival club over the weekend, the Pies had been growing in confidence when speaking on Monday morning.

After overcoming various soft-tissue injuries to play 16 matches in 2019, Elliott believes he has the best opportunity to win silverware by remaining at the club where he has spent the past eight seasons.

It is a big coup as the Pies attempt to keep their top-four list intact, with Brodie Grundy, Darcy Moore, Jordan De Goey, Scott Pendlebury and Mason Cox all out of contract at the end of 2020.

"Understandably, as a free agent, Jamie had some thinking to do but his importance to us, his role in the team and the support of the Collingwood environment were always clear," Collingwood list manager Ned Guy said.

"We share with Jamie the view that he is on the cusp of a strong new phase in his career. That his next 100 games could be better than his first 100, which were very good. We were very pleased to get last night's call."

Elliott has kicked 164 goals in 105 matches for the Pies.
