The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is the peak Australian Rules Football body in Western Australia and is the caretaker of football throughout the State and responsible for the overall development of the game.

The WAFC is a not for profit organisation that plays an important role in funding the ongoing development of football in all communities. This ensures that football is the best resourced sporting code in the State and can have the most active role in building better communities through various development programs.

To assist us in achieving these outcomes the WAFC is seeking a committed Financial Accountant to oversee the following:
  • Oversee preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Permanent WAFC Staff Payroll
  • Oversee and prepare annual audited accounts including external audit liaison
  • Manage day to day WAFC cash position
  • Oversee WAFL and AFL Club account reconciliations and transactions
  • Responsible for ensuring that financial information is processed in accordance with stated procedures and processes in order to provide management report information
  • Provide advice to managers and staff of relevant financial issues
  • Ensure financial information is completed in accordance with financial deadlines
  • Oversee work of Accountant and Finance Coordinator
  • Special projects and other general accounting duties as directed by CFO

To be considered for this role, you will be a qualified Accountant with 3 to 5 years post graduate experience. It is critical that the successful applicant has previous experience assisting with month and year end financial accounting duties.

Other essential selection criteria include:
  • An ability to work with senior management and understand business and operational issues and their application in a financial context
  • Proven experience liaising with both internal and external stakeholders both financial and non-financial
  • A strong sense of process
  • Well-developed analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Computer literacy including experience with Excel and Accounting software packages
  • Ability to work independently while exercising good judgment and decision making skills
