FOR the final time in 2014, ahoy there me hearties and welcome to Calvin’s Captains.

It’s the final week of AFL Fantasy and picking the best Fantasy captain is more important than ever.

So use the research I have dug out of my treasure chest for you, to not only get the most out of your captain but to also guide any trades you are doing this week.

Roy's Trade Talk: round 23

FIRST GAME, FINAL ROUND
Kicking off the final round of the year are Collingwood and Hawthorn on Friday night at the MCG. The best option from this game has to be Jordan Lewis [MID, $593,896] who has scored 108, 156 and 144 in his last three games.

Collingwood are currently bleeding Fantasy points and after scoring 120 against them in round 14, Lewis is shaping up as one of the best options for the week.

With Brent Macaffer going down last week against the Giants, Sam Mitchell [DEF/MID, $462,013] will now run free like Toby Greene (165) did last week against the Pies.

Mitchell only scored 80 and 98 against the Pies last year but did average 117 against them prior to that, dating back to 2011.

Collingwood is one of his favourite teams to score Fantasy points against and although he’s only averaged 98 in his last three games, he’s destined to score well this week.

Whilst Collingwood give up easy points to opposition players, the Hawks do not.

Scott Pendlebury [MID, $524,142] has only averaged 99 in his last five games and posted 106 against the Hawks when they clashed earlier this year. He has a good record against them though, carrying a lowest score of only 96 in his last eight games.

After running hot through rounds 17 to 19 averaging 125 points, Steele Sidebottom [MID, $565,478] has cooled off  considerably scoring 96 and 94 in recent weeks.

Hawthorn are one of his worst teams to score against, as he has failed to crack the magical ton in his last eight games against them. Ouch!

A NEW PIG RECORD?
For Tom Rockliff [MID, $749,057] to surpass the record of the highest-ever season average in AFL Fantasy, he’ll need to score 112 against Geelong this week at Simonds Stadium.

His pig partner, Dane Swan, currently holds the record after he averaged 133.5 in 2012 from 18 games.

Rockliff scored 140 and 77 against the Cats last year and scored 128 and 117 prior to that. His form has been unbelievable, averaging 166 in his last three games with scores of 154, 165 and 180.

Lock him in to not only take the mantle of the highest-averaging player of all time, but to also whip out another ‘pig like’ score to end what has been a year to remember.

Pearce Hanley [DEF, $551,446] only managed 69 last week due to a tag from Ryan Crowley. He did score 113 against Geelong in round two this year though and may be targeted by Cameron Guthrie this week.

Guthrie won 33 disposals of his own last weekend and is starting to lose his defensive responsibilities. In his most recent tagging efforts, he ran with Marc Murphy (98), Nat Fyfe (111) and Callan Ward (111) without much effect.

HUGE GIANTS
Very rarely do I talk up the Giants, but this week Toby Greene and Shane Mumford will be huge.

Toby Greene [MID, $561,628] has averaged 139 in his last three games and had a very impressive 165 last week. His form has been sensational and let’s not forget, he has been nominated for pig status before, after averaging 96 in his debut season. Although this was a premature nomination, he is really starting to shine once again and might be one of the most selected players in the 2015 pre-season.

Last week, four players from the Sydney Swans managed 110+ against the Western Bulldogs and although Greene only managed 78 when he met the Dogs in round four, he will continue his hot form this week.

If Will Minson misses again for the Western Bulldogs, look out for Shane Mumford [RUC, $429,263] to score big. He had 112 last week with 46 hit outs and might be up against Ayce Cordy who lost the hit-out count 14 to 44 against Mike Pyke last week.

Mummy could have 50+ hit outs and is a sure thing to score 120+ and If I had a top six this week, Mumford would have made the cut.

WILL THEY RETURN?
Picking any of these players as your captain this week is more dangerous than walking a slippery plank. Even if these players are named, a late withdrawal or a red vest is always a possibility. But with that said, it could be a gutsy move to win you your Fantasy Grand Final this week.

Steve Johnson [MID, $539,903] scored his second highest score for the year of 153 when he met the Brisbane Lions in round two. He loves playing at Simonds Stadium where he has clocked up scores of 58 (Crowley tag), 131, 168 and 121. If he plays, I’m expecting something special and for those who have held him to this point, pat yourself on the back and enjoy the show on Saturday night.

Up in Sydney, Josh P. Kennedy [MID, $510,766] will hopefully will take on Richmond, a team he scored 107 against earlier this year. He has only played at ANZ Stadium twice this year for scores of 139 and 99, and if he plays, he should reward those loyal coaches who held him throughout the carnage last week.

In round three, Dyson Heppell [MID, $535,436] scored 120 against Carlton and even posted a solid 122 against them last year. He has scored 120 and 129 in his last two games, but had surgery on his hand last week causing him to miss round 22.

Heppell has averaged 108 at the MCG and after Robbie Gray (137) and Chad Wingard (119) scored with ease against the Blues last week, Heppell should be in for another dominate performance… if he plays.

JUST QUICKLY…
Once again, here are few more of the popular players I have looked at heading into round 23.

Bryce Gibbs [MID, $526,928] v Essendon at the MCG: Gibbs has three scores over 100 in his last four games against the Bombers. He’s been in great form and is coming off a solid 113 from last week.

Jack Macrae [MID, $543,696] v Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium: This week, I think Macrae can go out with a bang. He scored 134 against the Giants in round four and is coming off a solid 116 last week. I’m expecting something special from the kid who has turned many heads this season.

Luke Parker [FWD/MID, $532,399] v Richmond at ANZ Stadium: Parker scored 102 and 85 in his last two games against Richmond and is in hot form, coming off scores of 124, 112, 106 and 114.

Jobe Watson [MID, $530,474] v Carlton at the MCG: Watson only carries a highest score of 104 in his last six games against the Blues and must be ignored this week.

Rory Sloane [MID, $530,525] v St Kilda at Adelaide Oval: Sloane has a great history against the Saints scoring 131 and 117 in his last two meetings against them. His form hasn’t been the best though with 86 and 79 coming in recent weeks. He’ll be much better than that against the Saints but watch out from a tag from Mav Weller who has held Trent Cotchin (60) and Ryan Griffen (71) in recent weeks.

Trent Cotchin [MID, $507,527] v Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium: In his last five games this year, Cotchin has scores of 60 and 54. He is way too risky at the moment and is certainly not captaincy material.

Levi Greenwood [MID, $524,244] v Melbourne at Etihad Stadium: Melbourne have given up 13 tons to opposition players in the last two weeks and Greenwood has averaged 102 in his last three. He scored 127 when he met the Demons in round 14 and should therefore be solid once again.

Joel Selwood [MID, $582,651] v Brisbane Lions at Simonds Stadium: After scoring just 87 last week, Selwood will bounce back in the final round of the year. Prior to last week, Selwood was averaging 128 in his last five and scored 104, 97 and 121 in his last three games against the Lions. He scored 130 in his last home game and is set to dominate again.

Lance Franklin [FWD, $535,287] v Richmond at ANZ Stadium: Franklin has averaged 113 in his last five games and scored 98 against the Tigers in round 14. Nick Riewoldt scored 121 against Richmond last week kicking 2.2  from 14 marks, indicating that Franklin could deliver a serious Fantasy score this week.

Brandon Ellis [MID, $509,300] v Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium: Ellis scored 117 earlier in the year against the Swans but has only managed 80 and 91 in his last two games. Pass.

Matthew Priddis [MID, $568,163] v Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium: Last week, eight Essendon players scored over 100 against the Suns including Brendan Goddard with 137. Although Priddis has only managed 77 and 98 in his last two games, he has scored 108, 100 and 133 against Gold Coast.

Patrick Dangerfield [FWD/MID, $460,214] v St Kilda at Adelaide Oval: Amazingly, St Kilda are the only team in Dangerfield’s Fantasy career that he hasn’t score 100 against. He’s played them 10 times and failed on each occasion, and if he cops the Weller tag, this record will not be improving any time soon.

ARRRGGGHHH THANKYOU!

Thankyou for being such loyal supporters of Calvin’s Captains this year. It has been a blast and I hope you’re like me and already looking forward to AFL Fantasy in 2015.
