WEST Coast has received some good news regarding Jeremy McGovern's knee, but it has been tempered by the announcement that youngster Tom Lamb will miss two months with a knee injury.

Neither player trained at Domain Stadium on Tuesday. McGovern had scans on Monday that cleared him of any serious ligament damage to his knee.

Eagles physiotherapist Paul Tucker told the club's website that McGovern may train on Thursday and potentially be available for Sunday's clash with the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

"We're hopeful that he'll train on Thursday and we'll make a decision following that," Tucker said.

Callum Sinclair appears to be the front-runner to replace him in defence if he doesn't get up.

The news was not so good for Lamb. The Eagles' second pick in last year's NAB AFL draft played every game of the pre-season and debuted in round one against the Western Bulldogs, but he has succumbed to some ongoing knee soreness after playing in the WAFL on Saturday and will be out for more than eight weeks.

"Tommy has had long-standing knee soreness that's required some very minor surgery," Tucker said.

"So he's had that done today. We would expect Tommy to be back playing in roughly eight or nine weeks time."

Xavier Ellis is still two weeks away from returning from a hamstring injury he suffered on March 8. Tucker said the club was hopeful he would return to main training next week, along with midfielder Scott Selwood who is still a month away from returning from his ankle problem.

Jack Darling is also edging closer to returning to the main group.

Simon Tunbridge had surgery on his ankle last week and will be in a cast for the next six weeks before beginning his rehab.
