GREATER Western Sydney defender Harry Perryman will miss at least this week after suffering a punctured lung in the Giants' win over Essendon.

The youngster was crunched in a heavy collision late in the second term of the Giants' 72-point victory on Sunday. He played out the half but didn't return after the main break.

Perryman went to hospital for treatment while the fourth quarter was underway and spent some hours there into the night, where the lung puncture was detected.

The club is unclear exactly how long Perryman will be on the sidelines, however given he has not fractured any of his ribs, he may only miss a short amount of time.

"Our doctors did a really good job at half-time. He said he couldn't breathe and they called the medics and they took him to hospital," Giants football manager Wayne Campbell said.

"He'll certainly miss this week and subsequent weeks. But there's got to be some further checks done in the next couple of days and couple of weeks to see how long he'll miss."

Perryman's setback was the main concern to come out of the game for the Giants, who stormed to a win over the listless Essendon outfit.

The 20-year-old joined the Giants as a first-round Academy selection at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, and played 17 games in his first two seasons with the club.
