SYDNEY has secured the important signature of co-vice-captain Sofia Hurley until at least the end of 2028 following extended contract negotiations.
The gun midfielder won the Swans' Best and Fairest in 2024 at just 20 years old, and has been a crucial part of the club's growth this year, until injuring her ankle in the Sydney derby in round five.
Hurley was drafted to the Swans with pick No.5 back in 2022 ahead of their entrance into the AFLW, sensationally nominating the NSW draft pool alongside No.1 pick Montana Ham, instead of her home of Victoria.
She has gone on to play 43 games across her five seasons, albeit with the last two cruelled by injury.
Hurley was an important signature for the club, who is also working hard to retain 2025 Rising Star Zippy Fish, who has interest from both Geelong and Fremantle, and is out of contract at the end of the season.
Under new coach Colin O'Riordan, Sydney has won seven of its 10 games so far this season, currently sitting two games clear inside the top eight and eyeing off a return to finals for the first time since 2023.
The club is hopeful Hurley will return during the finals series following extensive surgery and rehab on her ankle.
