THE AFLW All-Australian selection panel has confirmed the 42-player squad in contention for the 2026 AFLW All-Australian team, which will be formally announced at the W Awards later this month.

North Melbourne captain Jasmine Garner is in line for a record ninth All-Australian selection and, if named in the final team, will move clear of teammate Emma Kearney for the most selections in AFLW history, with the pair currently tied on eight.

The selection panel was tasked with selecting 42 players to recognise the competition’s leading performers across all areas of the field – forwards, defenders, midfielders and rucks.

The final team of 21 will be selected as if to play a match and will include a captain and vice-captain.

Following their remarkable rise from 13th on the ladder in 2025 to second in 2026, the Geelong Cats lead the squad with six players, followed by fellow finalists the Gold Coast SUNS, Melbourne and North Melbourne with five each.

The full club representation is: Adelaide Crows (one), Carlton (three), Collingwood (one), Essendon (one), Fremantle (one), Geelong Cats (six), Gold Coast SUNS (five), GWS GIANTS (one), Hawthorn (four), Melbourne (five), North Melbourne (five), Port Adelaide (three), Richmond (one), St Kilda (one), Sydney Swans (one), West Coast Eagles (one) and Western Bulldogs (one).

A total of 20 players are in contention for their first All-Australian blazer, including nine named in the squad for the first time. Among them are first-year players Ava Usher (Gold Coast SUNS), Jordyn Allen (Melbourne) and Olivia Wolmarans (Richmond), who have impressed in their debut seasons.

Twelve players will be looking to earn back-to-back honours, including Carlton’s Dayna Finn, the Gold Coast SUNS’ Niamh McLaughlin and Hawthorn’s Aine McDonagh. The trio are among six Irish players named in this year’s squad, after a record five were selected in the final team of 21 in 2025.

Sisters Madison (Essendon) and Georgie Prespakis (Geelong Cats) could share All- Australian honours for the second time, after both were selected in the final 2022 (S7) team.

The 2026 All-Australian selection panel comprises Andrew Dillon (Chair), Laura Kane, Gemma Bastiani, Kirby Bentley, Debbie Lee, Kate McCarthy, Meghan McDonald, Eliza Reilly and Michael Whiting.

The final team will be announced at the W Awards on Monday, 23 November.
