  • Q4 27:20

Jarrod Harbrow has been a rock for Gold Coast, with gamehighs in intercepts (12) and intercept marks (six). He has also recorded 32 disposals, four tackles, seven forward 50 entries and five score involvements.

  • Q4 22:10

It's been all Gold Coast in the past ten minutes, with seven more forward 50 entries, all five free kicks, and 2.3 (15) to no score. In that time the Suns have average 352 metres gained per disposal, compared to the Dockers' 69 metres gained per disposal.

    GOALSuns (David Swallow)

  • Q4 20:09

Alex Sexton has kept the Suns in it with a muchneeded goal, his tenth shot at goal for the night (with four goals, five behinds and a miss). Ten is the most shots at goal by any player so far this season.

  • Q4 19:40

    GOALSuns (Alex Sexton)

  • Q4 19:09

It's been a frustrating night in front of goal for Gold Coast. Although the Suns have received four points from rushed behinds, the biggest issue has been from set shots where they have kicked 2.9 (21) compared to the Dockers' 5.3 (33).

With his fourth shot, Jack Martin has finally kicked his first goal for the night. All of Gold Coast's five goals for the night have been launched from at or in front of the centre bounce.

  • Q4 09:49

    GOALSuns (Jack Martin)

  • Q4 07:59

Fremantle's ball use has been slick this quarter, with a kicking efficiency of 84 per cent. Since half time the Dockers' have kicked at 76 per cent efficiency, well ahead of the Suns' rate at just 51 per cent.

  • Q4 03:58

Bradley Hill might have hit the woodwork with his last shot but his run has been instrumental in Fremantle's game. He has won four clearances and four intercepts, recording a gamehigh 21 kicks on his way to a game-high 714 metres gained.

  • Q4 03:16

    BEHINDDockers (Bradley Hill)

  • Q4 00:00

    Q4 is now underway.

  • Q3 29:53

Gold Coast becomes the first team in any quarter since 2016 to kick eight behinds or more without a goal. Since their last goal to Sexton in the 22nd minute of the second quarter, the Suns have recorded ten behinds and four misses.

  • Q3 29:53

The siren has sounded to end Q3.

  • Q3 28:53

    BEHINDSuns (Jack Martin)

  • Q3 26:10

The gap on the scoreboard is somewhat attributable to varying long range efforts. From shots from outside 40 metres, Gold Coast has only managed 0.7 (7) while Fremantle has kicked 4.2 (26) from the same range.

  • Q3 26:10

    BEHINDDockers (Rushed)

  • Q3 23:50

A big quarter for Cam McCarthy after he managed just one mark and two effective kicks in the first half. In this quarter he has been involved in all three Fremantle goals, including two kicked from unlikely locations.

  • Q3 15:52

Gold Coast may have managed 13 forward 50 entries for ten shots at goal, but these only amounted to six behinds and four misses. In contrast, Fremantle have entered forward 50 on five times now for two straight goals, with Cam McCarthy kicking the first and providing the assist for the second.

  • Q2 07:40

    GOALSuns (Alex Sexton)

  • Q2 06:18

Fremantle has kicked its third goal for the game following a free kick to Michael Walters inside 50. The Gold Coast defenders have been penalised for three infringements inside defensive 50, with the Dockers returning 2.1 (13) as a result.

  • Q1 31:33

Gold Coast has the lead at quarter time but it may feel like it could have been further ahead. The Suns entered forward 50 on ten more occasions than the Dockers, but were let down by only 20 per cent of kicks inside 50 retained.

  • Q1 31:33

The siren has sounded to end Q1.

  • Q1 27:20

Although there hasn't been many goals scored, the game play has been relatively open. Both teams have transitioned possession chains from defensive 50 to forward 50 on at least 40 per cent of attempts, well up on the league average of 21 per cent.

  • Q1 23:31

At last Gold Coast has received dividends for its strong field position in this term. With their seventh forward half intercept the Suns have now launched their first major from that source. The Dockers have just won one forward half intercept of their own.

  • Q1 21:26

Touk Miller mirrors Colyer with a forward 50 clearance and snap goal of his own. He is leading the way with two clearances of the six won in the forward by the Suns, while Nat Fyfe has won two of the Dockers' three in that zone.

A great individual effort by exBomber Travis Colyer with the throw-in clearance win and quick snap for Fremantle's first goal. Last week the Dockers won seven more throw-in clearances than their opposition (ranked second in the league).

  • Q1 15:47

    GOALDockers (Travis Colyer)

  • Q1 15:14

The game is relatively open but both teams are falling down when entering forward 50. The Suns have kicked inside 50 on 11 occasions with just two retained, while the Dockers are yet to retain one of their four kicks inside 50.

  • Q1 05:53

The Suns have made a bright start around the ground but just haven't found an avenue to convert. Gold Coast has enjoyed 77 per cent of the early play inside its forward half, helped by 79 per cent kicking efficiency in comparison to Fremantle's 33 per cent.

  • Q0 00:00

Fremantle kicked its biggest score (141) since 2016 in its Round 1 win over North Melbourne. The Dockers recorded more than a 20minute advantage in time in forward half - a great improvement on their 2018 season average of a seven minute deficit per game.

  • Q0 00:00

Gold Coast has won two and lost seven of its nine encounters against Fremantle. The Dockers have also won the last two matches, with Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe polling votes in both victories.

  • Q0 00:00

In last week's onepoint loss to St Kilda, Gold Coast opted for more run-and-carry up the middle than in 2018. The Suns used the corridor in 30 per cent of chains from defensive 50 (up from 14 per cent in 2018) and as a result scored 24 points launched from that zone (ranked first in Round 1).

Suns steal win after nearly burning their chances

Highlights: Gold Coast v Fremantle The Suns and Dockers clash in round two

GOLD Coast has overcome wasteful kicking in front of goal to run out three-point upset winners over Fremantle on Sunday.

Conditions were perfect at Metricon Stadium, but both teams struggled for any free flowing football in a dour affair.

Despite nearly kicking themselves out of the game with 0.8 in the third quarter, the Suns ran out 7.19 (61) to 8.10 (58) victors.

SUNS SCRAMBLE THE WIN  Full match coverage and stats

Captain David Swallow sealed the win with a late set shot with four minutes remaining, while former Docker Sam Collins - who Gold Coast secured courtesy of the AFL’s special assistance package last year – took a desperate mark in defence to stop Fremantle's last forward foray.

Jarrod Harbrow was the catalyst for the Suns in the final quarter, driving his team forward as they overcame Fremantle's nine-point three-quarter time lead.

Harbrow finished with 32 possessions and nine marks in a best on ground performance.

WORST TIME TO BE A COACH Tight finishes start getting to Stuart Dew

He was ably assisted by Swallow (30 disposals) and Jack Bowes (27 disposals).

Nat Fyfe starred in the Fremantle midfield with 31 possessions and 10 marks, with Bradley Hill (32) and Ed Langdon (26) also impressive.

Sun Alex Sexton was lively again in the Gold Coast forward line, finishing with a match-high four goals, leaving him as an unlikely Coleman Medal leader after two rounds.

However, the Sun will rue several missed set shots, including two misses in a string of six consecutive Gold Coast points to start the third term.

Where the Suns were wasteful, the Dockers made the most of their opportunities, putting on a run of three goals to jump to the lead at the final break.

RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB How skipper's belief saved the Suns

McCarthy was the spark that started the Dockers' comeback, scoring two goals and setting up another.

It was a far cry from the fast, free-flowing Fremantle that smashed North Melbourne by 82 points at Optus Stadium last week.

'SUNS WORKED HARDER' Lyon not unhappy with Freo's efforts

Prize recruit Jesse Hogan made a solid start to his career in purple, comfortably swinging between the forward line and midfield.

The ex-Demon – who missed last week's stirring win over North Melbourne due to anxiety and made headlines for what Fremantle called "poor choices around alcohol" – bounced back to finish with 21 possessions and three marks.

AROUND THE STATE LEAGUES Who starred for your club?

While not impacting the scoreboard, the Docker's field kicking was a highlight.

McCarthy, Taberner and Colyer finished with two goals apiece for the visitors.

MEDICAL ROOM

Gold Coast: An added bonus on top of the win for the Suns was a clean bill of health post-match.

Fremantle: Luke Ryan came off the ground after a collision and was looked at by medical staff, but returned to play out the match.
