THE BRISBANE Lions have started on the path back to respectability under chief executive Greg Swann, with the club recording its best financial result since 2009.

The Lions still posted a net operating loss of $0.7 million for 2014/2015, but it was a major improvement on the $2.8 million loss in the previous financial year.

The club had produced five consecutive seven-figure losses until this year's improved result.

Swann said there was still much work to be done to reach the level the Lions wanted to get to.

"We have worked hard over the past year in improving our connection with our loyal members and sponsors, as well as working better together as an organisation," Swann said.

"But this result is only the start of the journey – we know that we still have a long way to go and we are committed to continued development across every part of the club."
