FORMER skipper Nathan Jones has been dropped by Melbourne, who have made three changes to the side that narrowly held on to victory against a disappointing Carlton side last weekend.

Jones, 32, had just 11 disposals against the Blues and struggled to make an impact, leading to the ever-present and respected midfielder being axed by Simon Goodwin along with No.3 draft pick Luke Jackson and forward Alex Neal-Bullen.

Fellow veteran Michael Hibberd will join him on the emergency list, having failed to earn a recall to the side that will face Essendon on Sunday, with first-round draft pick Kysaiah Pickett returning alongside Mitch Hannan and Aaron vandenBerg.

The Bombers will be without Orazio Fantasia, who joins captain Dyson Heppell on the injury list having initially been named to play on Thursday evening. Conor McKenna returns to the team, as well as youngster Brayden Ham.

Fremantle will be buoyed by the return of key forward Jesse Hogan for its clash with Port Adelaide on Sunday evening, with veteran Stephen Hill and promising young talent Sam Sturt joining him in a list of quality inclusions for the Dockers.

Ollie Wines will play his first game for the season for the Power, named to replace the injured Ryan Burton having missed last week's Showdown victory after being made to serve a one-match suspension for a COVID-19 breach.
