AFTER a bruising encounter with Carlton’s Brendan Fevola, North Melbourne defender Daniel Pratt holds no hard feelings, especially after a follow-up phone call from the burly forward.

Pratt was helped from the field after Fevola cannoned into his back in the round one NAB Cup clash two weeks ago.

After initial fears that he may have broken his ribs or suffered internal damage, Pratt escaped with bruised ribs.

Pratt said he was pleasantly surprised to receive a concerned phone call from Fevola the day after the injury.

“He gave me a call the next day to see how I was going. He told me he was 105kgs so I’m unfortunate because it is the heaviest he’s been,” he said.

“It was good to get a call from him. He was genuinely concerned and it is good that blokes off the field can set up relationships like that.

“Fev tells me every time we play that he’s going to try to run over me. It finally happened but that is just part of the game.

“It is my role. His role is to make sure blokes don’t get in his way. It could happen again but hopefully it doesn’t.”

Despite the painful encounter, Pratt says he will hold no fear next time he finds himself waiting under a high ball.

“I thought I was almost by myself but in the future I won’t be thinking about if someone’s coming or not. There aren’t too many blokes who can cause that sort of damage running around,” he said.

Pratt will miss this week’s practice match against Port Adelaide but is hoping to play in the club’s final practice match the following week.

The defender said while the initial pain was intense, he did not fear the worst when he felt Fevola’s knee crash into his back.

“I wasn’t too concerned about what was happening. I was more worried about the pain,” he said.

“I was pretty sore and I think the doctors were just concerned with previous things that have happened with (Tom) Lonergan and Leigh Colbert had a pancreas (injury) the other year. I was pretty fortunate in the end that it was just a rib and a bit of bruising.”
