On Saturday 4 October members from the WA Forensics Division will go under the razor with Michael Johnson at the Perth Royal Show to raise funds for Redkite – supporting children through cancer.

This head shave will cap off months of fundraising by the WA Forensics Division and, in the case of shave coordinator Briony Whitmore, years of preparation.

“I have been growing my hair for three years, it will be difficult to part with but it all helps put the day to day challenges of life into perspective,” said Briony.

Michael Johnson has also been resisting the urge to tame his wild locks for past few months.

“I have been working with Redkite for a couple of years now and have seen first hand what the families go through,” said Michael.

“As a father, I am blessed to have a beautiful healthy daughter so if I can contribute this way then I am more than happy to put my hand up and shave my head for charity.

“I’ve been holding out on getting my hair cut for awhile now in preparation for the shave and I am certainly looking forward to getting the locks under control again in a few weeks time at the Royal Show.”

Briony and the WA Forensics Division team have already raised $1,750 for Redkite and are hoping to raise $5,000 in total. Donations can be made online at www.everydayhero.com.au/Forensic_Kites or by calling Redkite on 08 9382 3321.

Redkite is an Australian charity that works to ease the pressure and to alleviate distress by providing emotional support, financial assistance and educational services to children, young people and their families throughout the difficult treatment period and beyond.  Redkite receives no government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to provide these important services – for more details visit www.redkite.org.au.
