GEELONG star Nina Morrison has ruptured the ACL in her right knee for the second time in two NAB AFL Women's seasons.

The 19-year-old was stretched from the ground after her knee buckled when she was tackled while attempting to kick in the Cats' 46-point loss to North Melbourne on Friday night.

Scans on Saturday confirmed the rupture.

The 2018 No.1 pick missed all but one game last season after suffering the same injury at training in the lead-up to round two.

She is the 14th player to have suffered an ACL tear this season.

"All the signs point that way (to an ACL), we will do the scans in the next few days and have our fingers crossed but the signs aren't looking great at the moment," Geelong coach Paul Hood said on Friday night.

"We are all gutted. I feel so sad for Nina.

"Footy can be a brutal game and we know that we have to pick ourselves up, stay a united group and get ready to prepare for the next game but it's going to take a little bit of time at the moment.

"The group is really determined to stay tight, we have a lot of wonderful people here, wonderful players who are so united and look after each other.

"We will wrap our arms around Nina, wrap our arms around her family and do our very best to help her come back bigger and better than ever."

Cats forward Jordan Ivey also failed to finish the game after she rolled her ankle, Hood describing the injury as "not a long-term" setback.
