AFTER a helter-skelter few weeks of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period, AFLW club lists for 2021 are nearly complete.

Clubs with fewer than 27 players can continue to sign delisted free agents until Friday, after which the final draft order will be confirmed.

See below for up-to-date lists and the big winners and losers from the Trade Period.

ADELAIDE

Sarah Allan, Najwa Allen, Chelsea Biddell, Hannah Button, Ailish Considine, Dayna Cox, Angela Foley, Renee Forth, Nikki Gore, Caitlin Gould, Anne Hatchard, Eloise Jones, Ebony Marinoff, Montana McKinnon, Rhiannon Metcalfe, Hannah Munyard, Justine Mules, Maddi Newman, Erin Phillips, Danielle Ponter, Marijana Rajcic, Chelsea Randall, Chloe Scheer, Jess Sedunary, Stevie-Lee Thompson, Deni Varnhagen, Lisa Whiteley

Recruits: Jess Sedunary (St Kilda), Hannah Munyard (Western Bulldogs), Lisa Whiteley (GWS)

Out: Courtney Cramey, Jess Foley, Courtney Gum, Sophie Li, Maisie Nankivell, Ruth Wallace (all retired/unavailable), Nicole Campbell, Jaimi Tabb (both delisted)

Current draft picks: 4, 45, fourth-round selection (currently 48)

A mixed bag for the Crows. The 2019 premiers have lost a lot of experience through retirements, but retained the core of their list, including the prized signature of superstar Phillips. Sedunary should slot straight back into the team after a year at St Kilda (if fully fit, she's currently rehabbing a serious ankle injury), but young midfielder Munyard and defender Whiteley are less likely to crack the best 21.

BRISBANE

Ally Anderson, Lauren Arnell, Emily Bates, Greta Bodey, Shannon Campbell, Gabby Collingwood, Sophie Conway, Dakota Davidson, Belle Dawes, Jade Ellenger, Nat Grider, Tahlia Hickie, Courtney Hodder, Jessy Keeffe, Breanna Koenen, Rheanne Lugg, Kate Lutkins, Maria Moloney, Orla O'Dwyer, Lily Postlethwaite, Selina Priest, Taylor Smith, Cathy Svarc, Jesse Wardlaw, Sharni Webb, Jess Wuetschner, Jordan Zanchetta, Emma Zielke

Recruits: Taylor Smith (Gold Coast)

Out: Arianna Clarke (retired), Hannah Hillman and Brianna McFarlane (both delisted)

Current draft picks: 8, 37, 38

After a few years of trade turmoil triggered by expansion teams, Brisbane appear to finally have a settled line-up. The Lions have retained 26 of its 30-strong 2020 squad and added young tall forward Smith from the Suns. While it may not happen straight away, the combination of Smith and Wardlaw should be a handful for opposition defences for years to come. Maintenance and development should be the focus of Brisbane next year.

CARLTON

Lauren Brazzale, Chloe Dalton (inactive for 2021), Alison Downie, Jess Edwards, Grace Egan, Georgia Gee, Serena Gibbs, Maddy Guerin, Charlotte Hammans, Kerryn Harrington, Tayla Harris, Jess Hosking, Courtney Jones, Mua Laloifi, Katie Loynes, Lucy McEvoy, Abbie McKay, Breann Moody, Elise O'Dea, Nat Plane, Gab Pound, Madison Prespakis, Nicola Stevens, Brooke Vernon, Darcy Vescio, Brooke Walker, Charlotte Wilson

Recruits: Maddy Guerin and Elise O'Dea (both Melbourne), Charlotte Hammans (Gold Coast)

Out: Sarah Hosking (Richmond), Jayde Van Dyk (St Kilda), Joanne Doonan, Katie Harrison, Sharnie Whiting, Emerson Woods (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 12, 28, 36

Could things have gone any better for Carlton? The loss of Hosking for the older O'Dea (24 versus 28) could hurt down the track, but for a side on the hunt for a flag, O'Dea's ability to hit the scoreboard – not just dominate the middle – is an immediate upside. Recuperating from a torn ACL, Guerin is unlikely to take to the field next year, while Hammans adds depth up forward. With Van Dyk having missed most of 2020 through injury, the Blues have already proven they can cover for the defender with Laloifi. The only negative is the unavailability of tough midfielder Dalton – who finished second in the club's best and fairest – due to rugby commitments.

COLLINGWOOD

Sophie Alexander, Jordyn Allen, Brittany Bonnici, Ash Brazill, Lauren Butler, Mikala Cann, Sophie Casey, Steph Chiocci, Brianna Davey, Erica Fowler, Abbey Green, Jaimee Lambert, Sharni Layton, Stacey Livingstone, Jordan Membrey, Chloe Molloy, Aliesha Newman, Ebony O'Dea, Alana Porter, Imogen Purcell (rookie), Ruby Schleicher, Aishling Sheridan, Maddie Shevlin, Kristy Stratton

Recruits: Abbey Green (North Melbourne), Aliesha Newman (Melbourne), Imogen Purcell (other-sport rookie)

Out: Sarah D'Arcy, Sarah Dargan (both Richmond), Katie Lynch (Western Bulldogs), Kalia Bentvelzen, Emma Grant, Eliza Hynes, Machaelia Roberts (all retired), Georgia Gourlay (delisted)

Current draft picks: 19, 25, 26, 31, 33, fourth-round selection (currently 54)

A very busy period for the Pies, who will be looking to continue their upward trajectory next year. It'll be a different-looking forward line (a weaker area in 2020), losing talls D'Arcy and Lynch and bringing in pacey small Newman. Green will add ruck support after the retirement of Hynes. Trading out of the first round was a shrewd move, and it means the Pies now only have to use pick 19 on father-daughter Tarni Brown, as well as snagging a bonus second-rounder out of the pick swap with the Dogs.

FREMANTLE

Ebony Antonio, Kara Antonio, Kiara Bowers, Steph Cain, Janelle Cuthbertson, Sabreena Duffy, Evie Gooch, Katie-Jayne Grieve, Gemma Houghton, Leah Mascall, Ann McMahon, Hayley Miller, Emma O'Driscoll, Gabby O'Sullivan, Roxy Roux, Matilda Sergeant, Philipa Seth, Ashley Sharp, Ange Stannett, Jasmin Stewart, Mim Strom, Aine Tighe, Tarnee Tester, Jess Trend, Bianca Webb, Alex Williams

Recruits: Jess Trend (North Melbourne), Tarnee Tester (West Coast, delisted free agent)

Out: Tayla Bresland (West Coast), Mia-Rae Clifford, Sarah Garstone, Lindal Rohde (delisted), Kate Flood (unavailable)

Current draft picks: 14, 30, fourth-round selection (currently 46)

It was a very successful re-signing period for Fremantle, with only Bresland moving to cross-town rivals West Coast after losing 10 players during last year's expansion. If the Dockers' forward line wasn't dangerous enough, they've now added goalsneak and the 2019 WAFLW leading goalkicker Tester as a delisted free agent. Trend should suit Fremantle's tough defence and can also add depth to the midfield if needed.

GEELONG

Maddy Boyd, Millie Brown, Rene Caris, Georgia Clarke, Richelle Cranston, Julia Crockett-Grills, Kate Darby, Nicole Garner, Renee Garing, Rebecca Goring, Danielle Higgins, Jordan Ivey, Maddy Keryk, Madisen Maguire, Amy McDonald, Meg McDonald, Maddy McMahon, Phoebe McWilliams, Nina Morrison, Aasta O'Connor, Olivia Purcell, Georgie Rankin, Mia Skinner, Denby Taylor, Sophie Van De Heuvel, Rebecca Webster

Recruits: Nil.

Out: Melissa Hickey and Anna Teague (retired), Cassie Blakeway and Gemma Wright (delisted)

Draft picks: 10, 20, 21, 27

The Cats are rarely big players in Trade Period, and that was the case once again in 2020. They're backing improvement to come from within, and while there's a high-quality young midfield core on the list, there are still questions over the forward line support around 34-year-old Phoebe McWilliams. Time will tell whether trading pick five (and a handful of others) to Melbourne for a larger presence in the late-first/early-second round was the right call.

GOLD COAST

Lauren Ahrens, Lauren Bella, Ali Drennan, Hannah Dunn, Tiarna Ernst, Tori Groves-Little, Cheyenne Hammond, Ellie Hampson, Dee Heslop, Jasmyn Hewett, Jordann Hickey, Kalinda Howarth, Leah Kaslar, Paige Parker, Brittany Perry, Emma Pittman, Jade Pregelj, Sally Riley, Molly Ritson, Jamie Stanton, Kate Surman, Sam Virgo, Serene Watson, Jacqui Yorston

Recruits: Ali Drennan (St Kilda)

Out: Charlotte Hammans (Carlton), Taylor Smith (Brisbane), Georgia Breward, Lexi Hamilton, Maddy Roberts, Tayla Thorn, Kitara Whap-Farrar (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 7, 23, fourth-round selection (currently 56)

An interesting first Trade Period for the Suns, who were very quiet until the final day. They've added some experience to their midfield in Drennan, while trading away two youngsters in Hammans and Smith. Hammans and the now delisted Whap-Farrar were both pre-listed under-18s out of the club's academy. With just 24 of 30 locked in for 2021, it's now a wait-and-see situation till October's NAB AFLW Draft as to how the club's list will be shaped.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Jess Allan, Nicola Barr, Rebecca Beeson, Elle Bennetts, Yvonne Bonner, Jess Dal Pos, Taylah Davies, Alicia Eva, Georgia Garnett, Emily Goodsir, Sarah Halvorsen, Tanya Hetherington, Jodie Hicks, Annalyse Lister, Tait Mackrill, Erin McKinnon, Alyce Parker, Rebecca Privitelli, Pepa Randall, Aimee Schmidt, Katherine Smith, Cora Staunton, Lisa Steane, Louise Stephenson, Britt Tully, Haneen Zreika

Recruits: Katherine Smith (Melbourne)

Out: Lisa Whiteley (Adelaide), Ellie Brush (unavailable), Maggie Gorham, Ingrid Nielsen (both retired)
Current draft picks: 9, 29, 42, fourth-round selection (currently 53)

For a squad built up of players from around the country, a big tick to the Giants for holding onto 25 of its 2020 group. Bringing in Smith on a two-year deal was also a positive; the ex-Dee will add leadership and stability to the backline. GWS' biggest question mark in 2020 was composure, so while adding a second quality recruit would have been useful, hopefully carrying a consistent squad will help in that regard.

MELBOURNE

Libby Birch, Gabby Colvin, Tegan Cunningham, Meg Downie, Chantel Emonson, Maddi Gay, Sinead Goldrick, Tyla Hanks, Shelley Heath, Kate Hore, Sarah Lampard, Lauren Magee (rookie), Niamh McEvoy, Lily Mithen, Jackie Parry, Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce, Lauren Pearce, Krstel Petrevski, Shelley Scott, Casey Sherriff, Shae Sloane, Brenna Tarrant, Eden Zanker

Recruits: Lauren Magee (other-sport rookie).

Out: Harriet Cordner (Richmond), Bianca Jakobsson (St Kilda), Aliesha Newman (Collingwood), Katherine Smith (GWS), Maddy Guerin and Elise O'Dea (both Carlton), Ainslie Kemp (delisted)

Current draft picks: 5, 15, 17, 35, 41, two fourth-round selections (currently 49 and 55)

It's safe to say Melbourne's Trade Period was one out of the books – a big list turnover, with good players traded rather than delisted, and bringing in draft picks rather than players. O'Dea is a huge loss, and while the Dees covered the unavailability of Smith and Jakobsson this year, they're still best-21 players in any other team and would have been useful additions in 2021. Cordner was also a crucial cog in defence, capable of taking the opposition's biggest forward and pinch-hitting in the ruck. The Dees have a very healthy handful of picks, including selection three in the Victorian pool, but there's now a hell of a lot riding on this draft.

PATTERSON What was behind Melbourne's trade strategy?

NORTH MELBOURNE

Sophie Abbatangelo, Kaitlyn Ashmore, Daria Bannister, Daisy Bateman, Nicole Bresnehan, Jenna Bruton, Grace Campbell, Jess Duffin, Jasmine Garner, Ellie Gavalas, Britt Gibson, Kate Gillespie-Jones, Aileen Gilroy, Jasmine Grierson, Danielle Hardiman, Emma Kearney, Elisha King, Emma King, Mia King, Beth Lynch, Tahni Nestor, Tahlia Randall, Ash Riddell, Vivien Saad, Sarah Wright

Recruits: Grace Campbell (Richmond)

Out: Abbey Green (Collingwood), Jess Trend (Fremantle), Taylor Mesiti (retired), Chloe Haines, Libby Haines, Emma Humphries, Mairead Seoighe (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 13, 22, 44, fourth-round selection (currently 50)

A fairly cunning Trade Period from North Melbourne, who didn't really need to add much to its list in the first place. While not an outright steal, pick 43 for the tenacious Campbell was definitely a win for the Roos, who now have more quality midfielders than they know what to do with. While Trend played every game in 2020, the returning Duffin (pregnancy) will comfortably fill that spot in the 21. North also managed to wriggle its way into a three-way trade by contributing draft picks, which eventuated into upgrading its second-rounder from 29 to 22.

RICHMOND

Christina Bernardi, Maddy Brancatisano, Katie Brennan, Hannah Burchell, Monique Conti, Harriet Cordner, Sarah D'Arcy, Sarah Dargan, Kate Dempsey, Alice Edmonds, Sabrina Frederick, Emily Harley, Sarah Hosking, Kodi Jacques, Akec Makur Chuot, Laura McClelland, Rebecca Miller, Sophie Molan, Phoebe Monahan, Iilish Ross, Sarah Sansonetti, Cleo Saxon-Jones, Gabby Seymour, Tayla Stahl, Courtney Wakefield, Holly Whitford, Alana Woodward

Recruits: Harriet Cordner (Melbourne), Sarah D'Arcy and Sarah Dargan (both Collingwood), Sarah Hosking (Carlton),

Out: Grace Campbell (North Melbourne), Laura Bailey, Lauren Tesoriero, Ella Wood (all retired), Nekaela Butler, Ciara Fitzgerald, Emma Horne (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 1, 43, fifth-round selection (currently 59)

The Tigers traded out the middle portion of their draft hand for a quartet of strong, experienced players in a bid to stabilise its fledgling list. Cordner, Hosking and D'Arcy will strengthen their respective lines, while Dargan should be a good long-term midfield option. The loss of Campbell for just pick 43 will hurt a comparatively shallow midfield, as will the retirement of Wood.

ST KILDA

Alison Brown, Rosie Dillon, Nat Exon, Clara Fitzpatrick, Caitlin Greiser, Darcy Guttridge, Bianca Jakobsson, Selena Karlson, Poppy Kelly, Tilly Lucas-Rodd, Tamara Luke, Kate McCarthy, Molly McDonald, Georgia Patrikios, Cat Phillips, Hannah Priest, Isabella Shannon, Kate Shierlaw, Jayde Van Dyk, Olivia Vesely, Nadia von Bertouch, Rhiannon Watt, Tarni White, Claudia Whitfort, Nicola Xenos

Recruits: Bianca Jakobsson (Melbourne), Jayde Van Dyk (Carlton)

Out: Emma Mackie, Courteney Munn (both retired), Jess Sedunary (Adelaide), Alison Drennan (Gold Coast), Sammie Johnson, Melissa Kuys, Kelly O'Neill (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 6, 24, 34, 40, fourth-round selection (currently 57)

St Kilda had quite a strong first Trade Period, holding onto the majority of their fairly successful inaugural team. Class was needed to support the developing squad, and Jakobsson and Van Dyk will provide that in defence. The loss of Sedunary's dynamism up forward will hurt, but the Saints will back the likes of Xenos to continue her development. They will carry a healthy hand into the draft but will likely need their second or third-rounder on father-daughter selection Alice Burke.

WEST COAST

Ashlee Atkins, Mikayla Bowen, Tayla Bresland, Hayley Bullas, Imahra Cameron, Mhicca Carter (rookie), Melissa Caulfield, Maddy Collier, Beatrice Devlyn, McKenzie Dowrick, Kellie Gibson, Brianna Green, Courtney Guard, Ashton Hill, Dana Hooker, Alicia Janz, Grace Kelly, Niamh Kelly, Parris Laurie, Aisling McCarthy, Sophie McDonald, Kate Orme, Chantella Perera, Belinda Smith, Emma Swanson

Recruits: Aisling McCarthy (Western Bulldogs), Tayla Bresland (Fremantle)

Out: Emily Bonser, Talia Radan (both retired), Kate Bartlett, Cassie Davidson, Emily McGuire, Danika Pisconeri, Tarnee Tester (all delisted)

Current draft picks: 3, 18, 32

Like the Suns, the Eagles cut a fair way into their inaugural list with five delistings (as well as two retirements). Attracting quality midfielder/forward McCarthy from Western Bulldogs was a big win, while Bresland should slot straight into the retiring Radan's spot in defence. Again, like the Suns, the list is a wait-and-see proposition ahead of October's draft, but some experienced, steady heads are definitely needed after a very tough first season.

Sign and Trade rating: 6.5/10

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Deanna Berry, Ellie Blackburn, Eleanor Brown, Naomi Ferres, Ellyse Gamble, Elisabeth Georgostathis, Angelica Gogos, Isabella Grant, Ashleigh Guest, Britney Gutknecht, Katy Herron (rookie), Bailey Hunt, Isabel Huntington, Gemma Lagioia, Kirsty Lamb, Brooke Lochland, Katie Lynch, Danielle Marshall, Kirsten McLeod, Celine Moody, Nell Morris-Dalton, Gabby Newton, Kim Rennie, Hannah Scott, Lauren Spark, Bonnie Toogood, Amelia Van Oosterwijck

Recruits: Katie Lynch (Collingwood)

Out: Aisling McCarthy (West Coast), Hannah Munyard (Adelaide), Nicole Callinan (retired)

Current draft picks: 2, 11, 16

After a few years of heavy expansion losses, Bulldogs fans everywhere will be heaving a sigh of relief after the club escaped the Trade period with just one top-line player leaving. Trading in Lynch suggests star key position player Huntington will once again play in defence. McCarthy is a loss to a midfield already reliant on a few players, but pick 16 is handy compensation. Some clever trades have left the Dogs with the strongest draft hand in the competition.
