The AFL has today confirmed the full fixture for the upcoming NAB AFLW Premiership season, as the League looks to celebrate iconic moments, grow rivalries and create traditions for fans in the milestone 10th season of the competition.
Kicking off on Thursday, 14 August, the 2025 season will span 12 rounds over 12 weeks for the first time, followed by four weeks of finals and culminating with the NAB AFLW Grand Final on Saturday, 29 November.
Since expanding the league to 18 teams, it will also be the first time the women's season launches during the men's home and away season with Rounds one and two of AFLW coinciding with rounds 23 and 24 of the AFL.
Ensuring fans can support both AFLW and AFL teams while the two fixtures cross over – including into the AFL Finals Series – there will be no competing clashes among clubs. To allow for this, the AFL will make provisions for slight time changes if the match windows for a club are within one hour of overlapping, giving fans the opportunity to catch both teams in action.
Announced earlier this month to mark 100 days to go until the season kicks off, Carlton and Collingwood will open the 10th season under lights on Thursday night at IKON Park – celebrating the inaugural 'lockout game' between the two rivals as a nod to where it all began back in 2017.
Continuing a big evening of Thursday night footy for fans, the match between the Blues and Magpies is the first of two games as primetime viewing stretches to the west coast with Daisy Pearce's Eagles taking on the Gold Coast SUNS at Sullivan Logistics Stadium in Leederville from 7:15pm local time (9:15pm AEST).
Round one will also see the Sydney Swans and Richmond take centre stage on Friday night at North Sydney Oval, followed by two captivating matches on Saturday afternoon. Geelong hosts reigning premiers, the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos, in a twilight match at GMHBA Stadium – allowing Cats fans to soak up the AFLW atmosphere while their AFL team plays interstate. Later that evening at Corroboree Group Manuka Oval fans will witness the very first game between the GWS GIANTS and Essendon, etching another piece of AFLW history into the books.
In another throwback to the league's history in the milestone season, Melbourne will face the Western Bulldogs under lights on Saturday night in round one at Mission Whitten Oval at 7:35pm (AEST). The rivals will battle it out for the Hampson–Hardeman Cup, which is named in honour of women's footy pioneers Bob Hampson and Lisa Hardeman and dates back more than a decade to the 2013 exhibition match.
Rounding out the weekend, 2024 grand finalists the Brisbane Lions will play semi-finalists Hawthorn at Brighton Homes Arena in Queensland, St Kilda will host the Adelaide Crows at RSEA Park in Moorabbin while Port Adelaide goes head-to-head with Fremantle at Alberton Oval in the final match of the round starting at 4:10pm (AEST).
Indigenous Round celebrations will take place across Rounds 3 and 4 with Richmond and Essendon returning to the Top End for the Dreamtime match at TIO Stadium on Friday 29 August. During Indigenous Round, Hawthorn will once again head to Cairns' Cazalys Stadium to play St Kilda in the second week, while Adelaide and Brisbane – who have played in fierce battles since 2017 – face off at Norwood Oval on Sunday 7 September.
For the first time Pride Round will span two weeks in Rounds 9 and 10, with all teams having the opportunity to wear their Pride guernseys for a home game. The Western Bulldogs kick off the celebrations at Mission Whitten Oval – the venue of the first Pride game in 2018 – on Friday 10 October against Essendon, while Sydney will be looking to fill Henson Park when they host Carlton on Sunday 12 October in the afternoon.
After a thrilling semi-final at IKON Park last year, where Port Adelaide pipped Hawthorn by one point to achieve the greatest comeback in AFLW history, the emerging rivals will open the second week of Pride Round at Alberton Oval on Friday 17 October in primetime.
The 2024 Grand Final rematch between the Brisbane Lions and the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos will be a must-watch game in Round 5, as the Lions host the Roos at Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday 14 September at 3:05pm (AEST).
Rounds 5, 6, 8 and 11 will feature fierce state rivalries across the country as the derbies, QClash and Showdown are set to fill the stands and stir up passionate supporter bases.
Fremantle takes on West Coast at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday 14 September, Sydney faces the GIANTS at Henson Park on Sunday 21 September, Gold Coast SUNS go head-to-head with Brisbane at People First Stadium on Saturday 4 October while Adelaide and Port will light up Norwood Oval on Friday night footy to kick off Round 11 at 7:35pm (AEST).
AFL Head of Strategy and Scheduling, Josh Bowler, said the fixture aimed to celebrate the 10 seasons of AFLW, while continuing to build rivalries, grow fandom and attendance.
"As we head into the 10th season of the NAB AFLW competition it is important to recognise the moments and match-ups in the game that have helped shape the league so far, while also nurturing the emerging rivalries and making it easy and accessible for fans to attend," Bowler said.
"The fixture is always a complex jigsaw to piece together and I’d like to thank all stakeholders including club representatives, senior coaches, our broadcast partners, the AFLPA and our team who have all worked incredibly hard to produce a fixture that enables fans to form even stronger connections with their team.
"Given this is the first time we’ve launched the AFLW season within the men’s home and away season with all 18 teams, it was important to ensure fans can support both teams during the crossover, so we’ve introduced a Flexible Fixture Framework for W games.
"This will only come into play if one club’s AFL and AFLW match windows are within one hour of overlapping, then we may have a slight time change to make sure one finishes before the other starts. Further to that, if a club is hosting two home games over one weekend, these will fall on different days to ensure the club can operationally deliver the best possible match-day experience for fans across two venues.
"Our themed rounds will both fall across two rounds this year. It’s the first time Pride Round has spanned two weeks, we wanted to make sure clubs had the chance to wear their Pride jumpers for a home game. Pride Round will take place across Rounds 9 and 10, while Indigenous Round has been moved forward to align with Rounds 3 and 4.
"We've been able to utilise Thursday night footy and then put emphasis on scheduling games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in timeslots that make it accessible for fans and families to attend as we strive to create consistency within this fixture.
"For the first time the women's fixture also takes a six-six-six approach to its opponent framework which aligns to the weighted rule for double match ups in the men’s competition. To manage over the expansion period, the previous model split the ladder into the bottom nine and top nine, but is now divided into three groups of six, and maximises the number of match ups within each group across the season."
AFL General Manager – AFLW, Emma Moore, said she was excited to release the full 2025 NAB AFLW Premiership Fixture.
"As a league we’re incredibly excited to celebrate the 10th season of AFLW this year and across the fixture we’ve made sure our fans can connect with the moments that form part of their club’s history so far in the competition," Moore said.
"As we continue to build out the draft AFLW Growth Strategy with all our key stakeholders, there is a clear focus on growing attendance and ensuring fans have the chance to engage with their club and the players as they create new traditions.
"There are some amazing match-ups across the season from the derbies and Showdown to the Grand Final rematch, Dreamtime games and Pride Round, so fans can get to the games this season and soak up the atmosphere which makes AFLW such a unique and fantastic game-day experience."
As naming rights partner since the AFLW competition began in 2017, the AFL thanks and acknowledges NAB for providing outstanding support of women’s football across all levels.
NAB Chief Marketing Officer Natalie Lockwood said:
"NAB has proudly supported every goal since the inception of the women’s competition," said Ms Lockwood.
"Footy brings people together, that spirit thrives when we all celebrate a win and we’re very proud of the growth in the AFLW to reach this ten-season milestone. Off the field, NAB is here to help our customers achieve their goals by supporting them every step of the way."
The fixture for the final round of the 2025 NAB AFLW Premiership Season will remain floating and will be confirmed at a later date. The highest ranked winner from the Preliminary Finals will host the Grand Final based on the rankings set after Week One of Finals.
Fans can watch AFLW matches this season across the Seven Network, 7plus, Foxtel, Kayo and Binge.
