Spelly: Hi Matt, welcome back to the chat site and all the best for 2003. Do you model your game around anyone?

Matt Maguire: Not really, just try to focus on my own weaknesses, but I don't model it on anyone.

Goosey_Lucy: Hi Goose. Did you learn much about footy from your Uncle Paul when you were growing up?

Matt Maguire: Yes, I’ve learned a lot of things off Paul!

Premiers2003: Who were your role models when you were growing up?

Matt Maguire: Well, my Uncle Paul! and also blokes like Ablett and Paul Kelly.

i_love_benny: Matty, do you have a girlfriend?

Matt Maguire: Yes I do.

nimmy: Hey Matty, how has your pre-season gone, and who are your close mates at the Club?

Matt Maguire: Pre-season has gone pretty well, a few injuries on my calf and hip. Best mates - it's hard to single anyone out.

lenny_rox: Where did you get the nickname ‘Goose’ from?

Matt Maguire: Off my old man - it was his nickname and got passed on to me.

Premiers2003: What’s the thing you like most about Grant Thomas' coaching style?

Matt Maguire: The fact that he uses a lot of 'empowerment' for the players.

Goosey_Lucy: How do you feel about snagging some goals this year?

Matt Maguire: Pretty good, hopefully I’ll get up forward, but I think I’m down back to start with.

Matt Maguire: Who are you by the way?!

Goosey_Lucy: I'm no-one Goose! Your marking is a real strength. Do you work hard on maintaining your spring in the legs?

Matt Maguire: I have to do a bit of work on my legs because I have calf problems.

Premiers2003: Who did you barrack for when you were growing up?

Matt Maguire: Barracked for Geelong and Sydney - Geelong mostly.

i_love_benny: What do you like to do to relax and get away from footy?

Matt Maguire: I like to play a bit of golf, go to the movies, go down the beach and spend a bit of time in the sun with the boys.

Premiers2003: Who is the funniest player at the Club?

Matt Maguire: Probably Milney or Steve Baker.

Premiers2003: What’s the best and worst thing about training?

Matt Maguire: Best thing is probably kicking goals and getting out there with your mates. The worst thing is doing warm-ups.

Premiers2003: What’s one thing no supporter would know about you?

Matt Maguire: Ooh, that's hard - my older brother's name is Ben.

Kosis_Chloe08: Will you be playing this Saturday?

Matt Maguire: I hope so - looking to secure a spot in the side.

Premiers2003: What’s one part of your game you are aiming at improving this year?

Matt Maguire: Just one part? How about the amount of goals I get kicked on me down back.

i_love_benny: What’s your favourite type of music?

Matt Maguire: All types.

mattysgal: What position are you looking at playing this year?

Matt Maguire: Just looking to get a spot in the side.

Goosey_Lucy: Goose, what do you think your biggest strength is, and on the other side, your biggest weakness that you are working on?

Matt Maguire: Maybe my competitiveness and long kicking.

Premiers2003: What did you enjoy most about the Family Day this year?

Matt Maguire: Lunch! No, the Jumping Castle! - and meeting all the fans of course.

Kosis_Chloe08: Will you be playing this Saturday, and will Kosi and Maxie be playing?

Matt Maguire: I can't divulge that information at this stage. Sorry, you could be a Kangaroos’ spy.

Lenny_rox: Do you have a job/study outside of footy?

Matt Maguire: Yes - I go to university and do Sports Management.

tom: Who's been your toughest opponent so far?

Matt Maguire: Probably Nathan Thompson from Hawthorn.

i_love_benny: Are the boys as close on field as they are off?

Matt Maguire: Yeah, definitely.

Lenny_rox: Do have any aspirations to captain the team in the future?

Matt Maguire: It would be a great honour – some time in the future.

Premiers2003: Do you think playing at the MCG with part of the stadium open will bring any disadvantages?

Matt Maguire: No, it will be the same for both sides.

AFL: Ok, Steve Baker is here, and he wants to answer some questions too.

i_love_benny: Steve, I love you, you are great, please tell me you don’t have a girlfriend?

Steve Baker: No, I’m single!

nimmy: Hey Steve, I ran into you at the Sandy last week, were you boys’ just relaxing before the big game this week?

Steve Baker: Me and 5 or 6 mates went down for half an hour - but we didn't drink!

Premiers2003: Steve - pretty much all the players on here tell us that Milne is the funniest and you are a close second. What do you think about that?

Steve Baker: Me and Milney are best mates, and we probably try to outdo each other a bit, but he's got me.

mattysgal: Hey Steve, how’s your pre-season gone? Are you looking to be as good in Round 1 as you were at the end of last year?

Steve Baker: No, better!

Goosey_Lucy: Hey Bakes, you going to keep the longer do or get the crew cut back?

Steve Baker: Not sure, I’m after suggestions!

Lenny_rox: Bakes, how excited is Len about captaining the side while Hamill’s out - can you pass on my congratulations?

Steve Baker: I just told Lenny and he said thanks very much.

Lenny_rox: Bakes - are you looking forward to playing your 50th against Adelaide?

Steve Baker: Yes, I’m very excited about it!

Kosis_Chloe08: Who did you barrack for as a kid?

Steve Baker: I’m from Colac, so I’m pretty close to Geelong.

turtle_dove: Hey Bakes, do you remember Kelly?

Steve Baker: I know a few Kellys! - no, she's a lovely girl.

AFL: Matt is back now for a few more questions to finish off.

nimmy: Matty, where do you do Sports Management – Deakin?

Matt Maguire: Yes, at Deakin. Nimmy, what's your real name? Bakes wants to know.

GuruJoffa: How bad are the calf problems Matty?

Matt Maguire: It's not bad at the moment, but I have to do exercises to make sure it doesn't get worse.

billing: What about Thomas' comment - you could become a full forward?

Matt Maguire: It sounds good to me; any way I can help the team sounds good.

Kosis_Chloe08: What would be the best thing about playing for St Kilda?

Matt Maguire: The best thing about playing for St Kilda is getting to play with the likes of Robert Harvey and Nathan Burke, and learning from them.

Matt Maguire: Thanks for dropping in and having a chat, I hope you all come along to the game on Saturday! Sorry, I have to take off now, thanks again for all your questions.
