North Melbourne's Harry Sheezel has been crowned the 2023 AFL Rising Star.

Sheezel won the award with 54 votes ahead of the Brisbane Lions' Will Ashcroft (39 votes), St Kilda's Mitchito Owens (33 votes) and Fremantle's Jye Amiss (28 votes).

The 18 year old received the Ron Evans Medal and a $20,000 prize at the AFL Awards ceremony tonight.

Sheezel was the number three pick in the 2022 AFL National Draft, selected from the Sandringham Dragons and played junior football with AJAX (Australian Jewish Amateur Association) – a Jewish football club based in Melbourne's inner southeast.

He becomes the second North Melbourne player to win the award and the first in 25 years, joining Byron Pickett who won the award in 1998.

From the 23 games he played, Sheezel amassed 30 or more disposals on 12 separate occasions.

Across the season he averaged 27 disposals, 441.8 metres-gained, 5.4 marks and 2.9 tackles per game.

In his Round 23 match against Richmond, Sheezel had 37 disposals (game and personal season high), seven marks, four tackles and 544 metres-gained.
