Geelong’s 2010 jumpers will have a slightly different look, with the AFL logo on the right breast surrounded in gold rather than the traditional red.

The reigning premier is allowed the wear the distinctive look as they defend their title. The ‘tradition’ was introduced for the 2008 season, meaning Geelong was the first club to wear the gold logo in the season following the drought breaking 2007 premiership.

“It’s a tradition that is common in other sports around the world and we are happy to be able to wear the gold badge, for obvious reasons,” Geelong’s general manager of media & public relations Kevin Diggerson said.

“I know the English premier league champions wear a similar gold logo, the Italian soccer champions wear the scudetto which is a shield featuring the likeness of the Italian flag, and last year the reigning World Series baseball champions, Philadelphia, also wore a commemorative badge.”

For the first time, the special jumpers featuring the gold logo will be available through the Cats Shop and on-line at geelongcats.com.au
