More than 400 players took part in the 2024 Coates Talent League Boys Testing Day at Thornbury’s Narrandjeri Stadium on Saturday.

The testing event, conducted by Rookie Me, took place on the eve of the 2024 Coates Talent Boys season, which kicks off next weekend with Round 1 matches to be played on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24.

The 2024 Coates Talent League Boys Testing Day saw players from all 12 Victorian-based Coates Talent League programs put their athletic skills to the test.

Players completed a range of athletic testing that included the standing vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20m sprint, AFL agility test and Yo-Yo IRT-2 test.

The 2024 cohort recorded the highest average result on the Yo-Yo test across the past four years, with an average score of 20.6 on the endurance test. Jett McLaughlan of the Northern Knights led the way with a score of 22.4.

Western Jets midfielder Daniel Snell achieved the highest running vertical jump across all pre-season testing conducted throughout the country this year. Snell, whose father Jason played 68 games for Geelong, produced an effort of 102cm.

Archie Taylor of the GWV Rebels ran the fastest 20m sprint with a time of 2.796 seconds, while Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Douglas Kerr topped the AFL Agility test in a time of 7.724 seconds.

COATES TALENT LEAGUE BOYS 2024 SEASON DETAILS

The 2024 Coates Talent League Boys home-and-away season will be played across 19 rounds, commencing the weekend of March 23-24. The final home-and-away round will be played the weekend of August 24-25.

Teams from Victoria and Tasmania will compete across the full home-and-away season, while the five academy programs from New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory will each feature in up to four matches between Rounds 3-8.

Wildcard Round will be played the weekend of August 31-September 1, ahead of a three-week knockout finals series which will culminate with the 2024 Coates Talent League Boys Grand Final the weekend of September 21-22.

Sandringham Dragons are the Coates Talent League Boys reigning premiers after last year securing a second-consecutive premiership triumph with a 43-point Grand Final victory over Eastern Ranges.
