Alias miss and Jones

THERE'S not much more to be said about this miss from St Kilda's Clinton Jones earlier this year. Tony Shaw said it all in the commentary: "You love the way he goes about it but his foot skills, at times, he doesn't finish off in general play let alone having a shot for goal." It's always been the knock on Jones, an absolute warrior in the trenches, but an ordinary conveyance when he has time to kick the ball. This shot for goal would be a soda for 99 per cent of AFL players. Jones, sadly, is the captain of the other one per cent.

Murdoch murders his chance

Jordan Murdoch's miss at Simonds Stadium last Sunday was a surprise. He killed Hawthorn in an MCG game played last year in similarly adverse conditions with three last quarter goals. He was kicking them from everywhere. This, however, was basically a failure to execute. As Gerard Healy said in the call, Murdoch should have kept on running to the point where it was impossible to miss. At the very least he should have kicked through the ball, not tried to poke it which, given the putrid conditions, always presented the risk of the ball going skewwhiff.
