MIDFIELDER Matt Rowell furthered his stocks as the leading candidate to be the No.1 pick next year after winning best afield honours in the NAB AFL All Stars under-17s clash.

Rowell was outstanding in Saturday morning's clash at the MCG, gathering 27 disposals (13 contested), seven clearances and a goal for Team Bartel as it ran out 42-point winners over Team Riewoldt.

The teams for the game were named after former champions Jimmy Bartel and Nick Riewoldt.

Rowell backed up his best-on-ground showing for the Oakleigh Chargers in last week's TAC Cup Grand Final loss with a dominant display at the MCG ahead of the West Coast and Collingwood premiership decider.

He wasn't alone as a group of 2019 prospects impressed and showed they will be tracked closely throughout next year.

Smart midfielder Caleb Serong had 27 touches and a goal, while West Australian Jeremy Sharp was excellent off half-back with 23 touches and a goal. Midfielder Cooper Stephens was busy with 18 disposals, while Bigoa Nyuon – nicknamed 'Biggie' – kicked three goals, including two skillful shots from the boundary line.

Nyuon is the younger brother of former Bombers rookie Gach Nyuon, and is a member of the St Kilda Next Generation Academy.

For Team Riewoldt, Oakleigh Charger Trent Bianco picked up 25 disposals and four rebound-50s, while Tasmanian Mitch O'Neill also picked up 19 touches.

Noah Anderson, who is the son of former Hawk and Saint Dean but not eligible to join either club as a father-son, kicked two goals from 15 touches.

Lively small forward Rhai Arn Cox took eight marks and booted 2.2 from his 12 touches, continuing to provide highlights across the game.

Team Bartel was comprehensive in its win, getting out to a 28-point lead at half-time before cruising to the win.
