GEELONG is likely to play nearly all of its home games under lights next season, with the club expected to host just one day match at Simonds Stadium.
AFL.com.au understands the Cats will open their 2014 home and away campaign on a Thursday night in the second week of round one. It is believed their opponent will be Adelaide.
The Cats are also expected to host at least one Friday night game at their home venue.
Geelong chief executive Brian Cook refused to comment on the makeup of the Cats' fixture but he acknowledged that there were "a lot of innovative things happening" with it in 2014.
"So we'll see what happens but I'd rather not say anything until the AFL comes out with it," Cook said.
If Geelong faces Adelaide in the opening round there is a chance former Cat James Podsiadly will be playing against his old club.
After joining Geelong in 2010, Podsiadly was delisted by the Cats at the end of 2013 after 83 games and a flag. He agreed to become a Crow in October, accepting a two-year deal.
Round one will be spread across two weekends, starting on Friday March 14.
It is believed there will be four games across the first weekend and five in the second, with the Cats-Crows clash to kick things off in week two on March 20.
The following night, North Melbourne is tipped to host Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
Gold Coast is expected to kick off its season at home in the first week against Richmond.
Greater Western Sydney has requested to play the Sydney Swans in the first instalment of the 'Battle of the Bridge' for 2014.
Swans recruit Lance Franklin could therefore start his career in the red and white at the Giants' home ground of Skoda Stadium.
The fixture remains in draft form and is subject to change up until its official launch on October 31.
The AFL won't comment before then.
