WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Lukas Webb's season is in jeopardy after breaking his leg at training on Thursday.

Having recently recovered from a serious neck injury sustained last year, the 23-year-old will go under the knife after fracturing his fibula and suffering syndesmosis damage to his ankle.

Webb was told by a surgeon last year that he may never play football again after fracturing his neck in a VFL match in July.

After he was placed in a neck brace for six months that was removed in January, Webb returned to the Footscray VFL side in April.

Webb was nearing a senior recall after seven VFL matches, including a 27-disposal outing last week.

The Dogs are expected to provide a more definitive timeline on Webb's return date after his surgery in coming days.
