The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 11.
Casey Demons have made seven changes from the side that thrashed Sydney Swans last week, with Jai Culley, Blake Howes, Matt Jefferson, Koltyn Tholstrup and Jacob Van Rooyen all added to Melbourne's extended squad for Monday's clash with Collingwood in the Big Freeze at the MCG.
Among their replacements for Saturday’s Smithy’s VFL clash with the Magpies at Mission Whitten Oval are Jack Henderson, Marty Hore, Bailey Laurie and Jed Adams.
The Magpies have made two changes, with Tew Jiath returning while Will Hayes and Oscar Steene named in Collingwood’s extended AFL squad, with the latter a chance to make his AFL debut.
Essendon will unveil mid-season recruits Archie May and Lachlan Blakiston when it hosts Carlton at Windy Hill on Sunday. Elijah Tsatas also returns among six changes, with Darcy Parish and debutant Luamon Lual included in the AFL squad.
The Blues will welcome their own newest addition with Werribee premiership player Flynn Young named for his first game in navy blue alongside AFL-listers Jaxon Binns, Jordan Boyd, Corey Durdin, Harry O'Farrell and Lewis Young in a stacked outfit.
Young's fellow Werribee 2024 premiership player Zac Banch will have face a unique experience in his first game for North Melbourne after being selected with pick two in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
Banch's first game for the Kangaroos will be Saturday's clash with his former club Werribee at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.
He is one of five changes for the Roos, coming into the side along with Finnbar Maley and Matt Whitlock, while Griffin Logue, Robert Hansen Jnr, Cooper Harvey and Brynn Teakle have been named in the AFL squad.
Werribee will have its own debutant, with North Albury’s Foster Gardiner named for his first game for the Tigers.
Hawthorn triple-premiership veteran Luke Breust will return from a back issue for Box Hill Hawks’ clash with Frankston at Box Hill City Oval.
Breust is one of five changes for the Hawks, who lost Sam Butler, Seamus Mitchell and Max Ramsden to the victorious AFL team, as they look to bounce back from last week's home defeat at the hands of Collingwood.
Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns have both named highly-touted Academy products for their respective Round 11 matches against Williamstown and Geelong.
The Lions have handed a VFL debut to Daniel Annable, who captained the Australia U18 team as part of this year's Marsh AFL National Academy program, for their home clash with an unchanged Seagulls line-up.
Meanwhile, the Suns have included Beau Addinsall and Dylan Patterson for their first VFL appearances of the year for the trip to GMHBA Stadium. Addinsall and Patterson each played eight VFL games in 2024 and come into a strengthened Suns line-up alongside Ned Moyle, Jy Farrar and Sean Lemmens following last week's home thrashing by Coburg.
Sydney defender Robbie Fox will play his first game since last year's AFL Grand Final when the Swans travel to Beaconsfield to take on Richmond. Fox, who has been hampered by a calf issue, returns with fellow AFL-listed trio Joel Hamling, Caiden Cleary and Caleb Mitchell.
The Tigers regain skipper Lachlan Street alongside Campbell Gray and Mate Colina, with Noah Balta returning to the AFL team and Samson Ryan to miss with injury.
Oskar Baker and Taylor Duryea return for Footscray's trip to Barry Plant Park to take on a red-hot Coburg, while Geelong has named Irish recruit Cillian Burke for his first game in the hoops after joining from County Kerry, the same club as Mark O'Connor, in October.
In other team news, former Casey Demons defender Ned Moodie has been named for his first game for Frankston, while Marc Sheather returns from suspension for the GWS Giants home clash with the Northern Bullants, who have named Jaden Collins for his first VFL game since 2022.
BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App. The Seven Network will broadcast a match live and free on 7mate in Victoria and 7plus Sport nationally every Saturday night.
