The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 21.

Adam Treloar will his first VFL game when the Footscray Bulldogs host Carlton at Mission Whitten Oval on Sunday.

The 258-game AFL veteran has been hampered by soft tissue issues this year, managing just four games after earning All Australian honours in 2024.

He is joined in the Bulldogs’ line-up by Caleb Poulter, while Jordan Croft has been named for his AFL debut and Josh Dolan is in concussion protocols.

Carlton regains forwards Harry Lemmey and Will White although ball magnet Will Hayes and mid-season signing Sam Paea are both unavailable.

Geelong has named its strongest team of the year when its travels to take on the Sydney Swans at Tramway Oval.

Cam Guthrie is again on the comeback trail following a spate of soft tissue injuries, while fellow veteran Mitch Duncan, Oli Henry, Jhye Clark and Mitch Knevitt will also play.

The Cats needed to record a massive win and hope other results go their way to sneak into tenth spot, and will be aided by Ben Paton, Patrick Snell and Nic Shipley all coming out of the Swans’ side with injury.

Williamstown regains Riley Collier-Dawkins and Jovan Petric for its vital clash with Richmond at DSV Stadium which will decide the Seagulls’ finals fate. A win books a third-straight finals campaign, although a loss will see them miss out.

Richmond has lost key position pair Jacob Blight and Tom Sims to injury, while Steely Green will head south with the AFL team as the carryover emergency.

The Tigers do regain Jasper Alger, Liam Fawcett and Oli Hayes-Brown, meaning they will have five AFL-listed players in the much-anticipated match.

Potential number one draft selection Cooper Duff-Tytler will make his VFL debut for Essendon when the Bombers travel to Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Oval to take on Sandringham.

The 17-year-old ruckman from the Calder Cannons is joined in Essendon’s team by Vigo Visentini, while Kyle Langford, Saad El-Hawli and debutant Rhys Unwin have been promoted to the AFL team.

Sandringham has also included a prospective draftee for his first VFL game, with St Kilda NGA prospect Kye Fincher named alongside Liam Henry and Max Heath among five changs for the Zebras.

Alex Dodson will make his AFL debut for St Kilda after starring in last week’s defeat to Richmond at Kinetic Stadium, while Tobie Travaglia and Lance Collard have also been recalled by the Saints.

Collingwood will take an imposing line-up into its clash with Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium.

Tom Mitchell, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Charlie Dean return from the AFL team, youngster Joel Cochran is back from injury along with skipper Sam Glover, while VFL stalwart Tom Wilson has been named for his 175th match to reach life membership.

The Borough have recalled livewire Anthony Anastasio for suspended forward Jimmy Miller.

Frankston welcomes back star midfielder Tom Murphy for its enthralling clash with the Brisbane Lions at Kinetic Stadium which will likely determine fourth spot on the ladder and a double-chance in the finals.

But it’s not all good news for the Dolphins, who will be without Blake O’Leary for the remainder of the season after sustaining a knee injury in last week’s win over North Melbourne.

Deven Robertson, Henry Smith and Will McLachlan all return for the Lions after playing in the AFL team last week, with Sam Day recalled to AFL duty this week alongside Luke Beecken who will make his debut.

Sam Frost, Sam Durdin and Cody Anderson return to bolster the Box Hill Hawks for their trip to Casey Fields to take on the Casey Demons. A win to the Hawks would likely seal the minor premiership.

The Demons have lost Jack Henderson to injury, along with emerging draft prospects Willem Duursma and Kalani White, but do regain Jed Adams following his AFL debut and will unveil NGA prospect Toby Sinnema from the Dandenong Stingrays.

The GWS Giants have taken a hit for their trip to People First Stadium, where they must beat the Gold Coast Suns to have any chance of hosting either a Wildcard Final or Elimination Final.

Leading goal kicker Max Gruzewski and Jacob Wehr have both been included in the AFL team and Phoenix Gothard and Nathan Wardius are out with injury, with no AFL-listed players are among the Giants’ six inclusions.

The Suns regain Ben Jepson and U18 All Australian Koby Coulson to cover loss of injured club great David Swallow and promoted pair Malcolm Rosas and Alex Sexton.

Southport will be bolstered by the return of star forward Hugh Dixon, along with important trio Jay Lockhart, Matt McGuinness and Jesse Joyce when it hosts North Melbourne at Fankhauser Reserve.

The Roos regain a host of AFL-listers for the trip north, although Matt Whitlock will head south having been recalled to the AFL team for the clash with Richmond in Hobart.

Werribee has lost Emerson Jeka for its trip to Genis Steel Oval to take on the Northern Bullants, where both sides will be looking to finish their 2025 campaign on a positive note.

Josh Hamilton will miss for the Bullants, with a foot injury brining his breakout season to a close and ruling him out of Jean-Luc Velissaris’ 100th VFL game

BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App. The Seven Network will broadcast a match live and free on 7mate in Victoria and 7plus Sport nationally.
