NORTH Melbourne has extended the contract of last week's debutant Will Walker, with the young midfielder now locked in until 2020.

Walker, pick No.23 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, was already contracted until the end of next season, but has added an extra year onto his existing deal.

The 19-year-old gathered 11 disposals (six contested) and laid four tackles in his maiden AFL game against West Coast on Sunday.

Walker, who was a talented soccer player as a junior before deciding to pursue a career in the AFL, said he did not have to think too long before agreeing to the contract extension.

"It's awesome to be locked in for another year and be here until the end of 2020," Walker told nmfc.com.au.

"I probably found out about three weeks ago; the club approached my manager and he told me and I was stoked and the first thing I said was, 'yep sign me up'.

"I like being around the boys and I'm super excited, and I can't wait to get stuck in for another two years."

Walker has kept his spot for Saturday's clash against Brisbane at the Gabba.
